Memorable quote: ”Develop a compassion to serve that is great than the compulsion to survive”. @CraigLiebenson , #fpmmentorship, This is not the way of the world, but we need it to be. In the Hippocratic Oath,it states "first,do no harm".Vested interests that drive care, harm

Agree or disagree, most will concede the US is not leading the way despite efforts from a minority of practitioners like @AlisonSyno.
These observations seem justified when factoring in the free market. Patients are driving the conversation by seeking care by all means necessary that align with their values.
Fucked up things I heard today
1) ortho says to pt: you’re going to cashed based PT? What are you independently wealthy?
2) pt says to PT: I want to try non operative care for my ACL, so I need to avoid extension PT: “no we need to get extension” and continues to push into pain

Preparation for the best is something that never stops and “simply” a way of life!
We all feel that same excitement!
And, yes, prep is necessary (and on-going regularly) for the most demanding walk of the year. 2x weekly pilates/gyrotonic sessions, daily cardio and stability-strengthening program designed by @AlisonSyno. 2nd toughest walk: Muirfield Village.

In the states it take 17 years to implement just TEN PERCENT of proven clinical healthcare research. It may shock some of you that many healthcare providers are operating on outdated treatment models & unaware of emerging research.
So when it comes to decisions on ACL surgery, rest assured we're behind the rest of the world.
Dr. @stephfilbay explains why recco's to patients to get surgery are based on poorly designed research. And why stateside @AlisonSyno gets patients from the other side of the country reaching out for non-surgical options.
Surgery may be best, but you have options.

I continue to be shocked and disappointed to hear stories of patients being told by clinicians to avoid doing the things in life that give them meaning....due to pain. The result is greater distress and disability with no pain benefits. Why do we continue to do this?
Extremely excited for this episode to drop! Check it out. @dottie_pepper is a great person and has amazing perspectives. What’s a Sunday at the @TheMasters (or most golf Sundays!) without Dottie’s voice in the background?? 💕

My fav is how
1) the research is clearly presented
2) there’s so much knowledge presented in the courses
3) I love how the best in their fields are not afraid to admit there is so much we dont know
Things you hate hearing from a patient / client.. go…
I’ll start…

Runners who don’t consistently strength train and are frustrated by chronic injuries are = smokers who wont quit but frustrated by chronic illness.
Yes the former is healthier but ignorance is the same.
Throw what you will at the injury or illness, it starts with the basics.

New research showing you may not need surgery to repair an ACL. It can mend on its own *if* put in the right environment. Patients as far a 10 states away have been finding @AlisonSyno 👇who is implementing this new research in near real-time.
The reason we often don't "trust the experts" is b/c, in medicine/healthcare, it takes - on average - 17 (!) years to implement just 10% of proven research
So we're constantly 2 decades behind. The info is there, published, proven. But not implemented. Money & incentivizes ("what will we do if our patients aren't recurring customers???")
We discuss here in full. Subscribe to our channel:

Girls and women should not lose their periods when they are runners
Yes I know this is common but it is a significant sign of deeper issues and severely effects long term health.
Unbelievable that this is not talked about at the high school level and not screened for.

If you can’t:
Squat
Do heel raises
Single leg squat
Single leg balance
Hop
No running shoe will save you from your injuries, it may bandaid it for a few but something else will hurt.

My man 🤗
Pops was a trucker
Up at 2 every a.m. to load cargo for the day
10 hrs on the road
Home by 2pm
Then ventured out 2-6, 7, 8pm to:
Mow lawns
Paint houses
Shovel neighbors driveways (for free)
Bartend Fri nights
Deliver Dunkin Donuts to hospitals on Sundays at 4am (cause ya know... that's sleeping in)
Still found time to attend every road hoops game in High school
Still shoots an 85 on a replaced hip and knee with a baseball grip and takes no practice swings. Still throws a bullseye on the dartboard like he's Chris Kyle.
Taught me how to shoot the 3 and handed down to me the moxy to hit a game winner
And like most dads... never asked for a thank you. A special day or month. A fucking hashtag or an emoji in his bio to prove you supported him.
