And having been someone who has not won everything, I thought it is deeply inappropriate to use anyone else to justify your behavior and to justify your dismay, She said he told her not to come to something. At the start of my primary April 2025, Haley’s goons threatened me (about my being a recovering alcoholic which is literally how I got into advocacy work more) to support her and made clear there’d be consequences if I didn’t.

As a Black woman running, I was apparently expected to fall in line. I called Mallory crying. Some in MDP and Emily’s List had to step in and tell Haley to back off. But the message remained: stay on her “good side” or else.

Congresswoman Stevens is not a current member of the Michigan Democratic Party, nor will she be in the future.
I was a no name first time candidate. Power dynamics are real and when you’re trying to run and do the right thing to help people… this is why many people NEVER run again.
When I say I will ALWAYS fight for Mallory McMorrow I mean it with every fiber of my being. That US Senate race caused damage to anyone around it and she stepped in so many times to protect me the best she could. She consistently put her own fate at risk to have my back.
And my campaign launch? Already scheduled, until Haley’s team called to say they were holding theirs at the same time and I needed to move mine, even though her actual launch was the day before. We moved it because we didn’t want more pressure or issues.

Someone once told me “Michigan is the hold my beer of politics”
Meaning whatever dumb shit you think everyone else has done…hold our beer. We will certainly do one better 😅
For the next campaign cycle I’ve written a new section of a candidate training (I was asked to) dedicated to this. Candidates need to be prepared like never before.
