Protests took place in towns and cities around Poland on Thursday evening, demanding that the government fulfil its promise to liberalise the country’s strict abortion laws notesfrompoland.com/2026/10/…
In 2022 I was asked to pay a £1000 deposit to *view* a flat. I refused but then couldn't find a place to live for four months.

I am deeply fascinated by the modern right's insistence that "the elite" is a category that does not actually include the ultra wealthy who dominate society and dictate many of its laws, and is instead made up of socialist teachers, anti-genocide protestors, and "woke" baristas.

After two weeks of demoralising negotiations, the Spanish left fail to reach a unity agreement, with Podemos now running separately in November's elections. Turns out placing your hopes in a politician who does well on Tiktok might not have been wise.

The Spanish electoral left is just a series of projects with some version of "unity" in the name that then refuse or fail to unite.

The same rightwing media is now trying to paint her as a passive victim who found herself in the middle of a media storm against her will.
She was a victim, but she was also an activist. She spoke about the eviction in explicitly political terms and encouraged others to fight.

HUGE: Spain’s biggest unions have announced a nationwide general strike over housing issues on November 11, just two weeks before a newly called snap election.
Rising rents and evictions have taken center stage in the country over the last month, leading to massive protests and a proposed eviction moratorium which was shot down by the conservative elements in Parliament.
Now the country's two largest unions, UGT and CCOO, have agreed to strike together for the first time in 14 years, with other unions set to join as well.
Over the past two weeks, the rightwing media desperately tried to run hit pieces on Maricarmen. The worst they could find was things like someone saying she couldn't have been that poor because they would sometimes see her at bingo nights.
