UK new minimum wage: £27,456 per year. Higher-rate tax bracket: £50,270. 1.8x difference. In 1997 there was a 5x difference. Mind boggling.

This controversy is absolutely nuts. The Mao revisionism is *wild*, with state media demanding that foreigners bend the knee to an excrescence who killed tens of millions of their own ancestors. This ridiculous headline, together the humiliating capitulation of the sports world. Mbappe said something that anyone who has had a passing glance at history knows: Mao was not merely a dictator, but the biggest killer of the last century. In case anyone was wondering about PRC influence in sport, you have your answer. And in case anyone was wondering about how quickly “private” Chinese companies (sponsors) can be mobilised to do the bidding of the Party State, voilá. Getting the picture yet? This is the Whole-of- State approach in action people. Everything is the Party, and nothing can challenge it.
Major brands in China have dropped Kylian Mbappé over a clip in which the French football megastar appeared to mock Mao Zedong, China’s modern founding leader. vist.ly/5q5xz

Many Western nations managed to "uplift farmers and the working class" without killing upwards of 30 million of them. We did this, generally, without empowering student mobs to trash all the history we now claim we're proud of, and without massacring the wealthy and the educated on the altar of cultural revolution. One of the many ironies of the modern Chinese nationalist is that, were it not for generals countermanding the Red Guard, the evidence they claim for their greatness would have been totally destroyed by Mao's own faction. We have no equivalent of Mao's campaign against the Four Olds, having largely gotten over iconoclastic religious hysteria in medieval times. We never went around killing sparrows to avert famine (which caused a surge in locusts that made famine worse) — of all our many retarded leaders, none have been so retarded as that. Our war heroes did not hide in mountains waiting for the Kuomintang to do all their fighting for them, only to emerge and claim credit after the fact. The Communists are not war heroes. They drove the war heroes out of the country they fought to save. We have managed to make modern nations of citizens, not subjects; and our technological prowess today is the product of invention, not theft. We have empowered our ethnic and religious minorities, almost to a fault, while the Chinese government locks them up in camps that we consider horrors. As is usually the case, Communist doctrines of "colonialism" and "imperialism" - the latter a Leninist propaganda trick designed to save Marxism from all its failed predictions - are spread today to spare Communism the shame of its own deeds. And we are able (and even encouraged) to criticise our most important leaders and heroes, while the Communist Party apparatchik must debase his own intellect before he is allowed to speak. China does have a rich and wonderful history. Mao created none of it, and destroyed much of it. The fat ass of his legacy squats on what remains.
To us Chinese, Mao Zedong is our hero. Mao uplifted farmers and the working class in China, united the Chinese people, led us to defeat foreign invaders, and founded an independent country so we could all live with dignity. Mao supported the heroic struggle of the African people against imperialism and colonialism. He was one of the greatest leaders in world history, and one of the most demonized by the West.

By "captured by the far right" she means that working class women got involved in the struggle for sexed based rights. The riff raff thought they could speak on their own terms and use words like woman rather than her favoured term "female people." When her crew tried to cancel women for attending an event to discuss two tier policing it failed because everybody had just about enough of this behaviour. When her mates at Filia tried to exclude women like me, @AjaTheEmpress, @JeanHatchet and @LightninLex it rebounded on them, because "the movement" said "hang on, this is a bit much, what did they actually do." Because it turns out women would much rather conga with "facists" than read a ten tweet word salad essay by the crone and her coven.

Considering pensioners also don’t pay NI, this makes pensioners at the new limit ~£130 a year better off than people who work for exactly the same money.
Exclusive: The chancellor will use his budget this week to protect pensioners and those saving for their retirement as he announces plans to shield nearly one million people from paying income tax John Healey is expected to confirm on Wednesday that the full state pension will rise by £489 to £13,036 - equivalent to 3.9% However, the rise will push about one million people on low incomes who rely on the state pension above the £12,570 personal allowance threshold, meaning they would be dragged into paying income tax To retain the principle that the state pension is not taxable, Healey is expected to announce a rise in the tax-free allowance for low-income pensioners to £13,036. The move will cost taxpayers £200m a year by 2030 It will rise in line with increases in the state pension over the course of this parliament. However, millions of pensioners with higher incomes - such as those who have private pensions - will still pay income tax The Times has also been told that the chancellor has decided not to reduce the tax-free pension lump sum. Pension savers can take 25 per cent of their pension tax-free from the age of 55 up to a maximum of £268,275 There were suggestions that Healey could reduce the tax-free amount to £100,000, but he has chosen to retain the current level The moves to protect pensioners and those saving for their retirement come after Andy Burnham announced plans to end the pensions triple lock - under which the state pension rises in line with inflation, wages or 2.5 per cent - in 2030 to help fund social care thetimes.com/article/47291ec…

Why should a pensioner on a £13K income be exempt from income tax when a person of working age is not? Those of working age do not receive free travel or all sorts of other discounts to which pensioners are entitled. We do not exempt people from tax based on how many dependents they have, or how much housing in their area costs, so why exempt individuals based on age?
John Healey, the chancellor, is expected to announce a 3.9 per cent rise to the full state pension while protecting those on lower incomes from income tax thetimes.com/uk/politics/art…

There is no defending this. A two-tier tax allowance with relief for pensioners paid for by fiscal drag on working people. And before the boomer brigade starts foaming at the mouth: I'm not interested. The allowance should rise - or freeze - equally for everyone.
🚨 NEW: John Healey will announce pensioners will be protected from paying income tax in the Budget The state pension will rise by £489 to £13,036 with the tax-free allowance rising to match

For most women, it is excruciatingly painful to be separated from their young baby. We therefore spend most of our day with them and develop a deep understanding of our babies needs that no other human has that is non-verbal. Having attentive caregivers is absolutely crucial to the healthy development of the child. That *only* women can do this is obviously a myth, and since the 1950s more and more dads have been hands-on. But pretending mothers are just like any other person to the child actually harms women. It pushes women to be separated from their children too young, instead of supporting them going back into the workplace when they feel mentally and physically ready. Please stop mansplaining motherhood to mothers.
Because their so-called "maternal instincts" are a myth designed to entrap and oppress them. What is the meaning of feminism if all you end up doing is taking more and more of what pertains to gender and attributing it to sexed nature? The end point of this is pure conservatism.

For those of you who thought the visit from a Bedford Borough Council official to investigate our daughter Zoe’s (age 12) pretend teddy bear cafe was too ridiculous to be real, here is the arrival of official. This is totally legit. She really did show up at our property to investigate the illegal teddy bears having their coffee🧸🧸☕️☕️

Some chatter on social media would have you believe that crime is out of control. The facts tell a different story. As @frasernelson has shown in his Substack today: Violence is at its lowest level since the crime survey began in 1981. Robbery is at a record low. Crime, excluding fraud, is 78% down on its peak in 1995. And the stats show this Government is delivering on its promises too: Knife crime is down 11%. Knife murders are at their lowest level in 35 years. Thefts including phone snatching have fallen by 20% in the last year alone. But I know there is more that we must do, and we will: We’ve put more than 3,800 extra neighbourhood officers into roles, with named, contactable officers for every neighbourhood. We’re introducing the most significant reforms to policing in a generation. We are tackling rising rates of violence against women and girls through our landmark strategy. And we are tackling crimes like fraud, more prevalent in our increasingly online world, with £250 million directed to this challenge in our Fraud Strategy published this year.

Out of touch game journalist who’s only relevant due to Yahtzee Crowshaw carrying his corpse: “Hmph why don’t Chuds make games?” Guy who was cancelled by the games industry who made games admits places like BioWare got eviscerated by puritan political hiring & these idiots will say why don’t conservatives make games They do, most hide it, cause you people are insane. And most of the studios today that are practically dead ( Bungie, BioWare, Obsidian which Chris Avellone co-founded ) were all created with people with right leaning belief systems But you won’t admit that & you’ll just look at the current state of those studios that are mostly new hires who had no hand in making the classics. And places like Obsidian, Bungie, BioWare, Volition & more were hijacked & ruined by the very people who believe/agree with Yahtzee’s human back pack here & not the original founders Why don’t Chuds make games? They did, your entire western game industry exists because the Chuds made every franchise you like you moron. Even world of Warcraft, Diablo & StarCraft were made by chuds. Teach Black children their history? ABSOLUTELY! But teach them ALL of it, not some carefully curated historical narrative designed to leave them perpetually angry, resentful, and convinced that their future is imprisoned by their ancestors’ past. You want to teach them about slavery? EXCELLENT! Then let’s teach them about the African kingdoms and merchants who captured, enslaved, and sold other Africans. Let’s discuss the Kingdom of Dahomey, the Asante Empire, and the role African intermediaries played in the transatlantic slave trade. Let’s teach them about the Arab slave trades, which operated across centuries, and the indigenous systems of servitude that existed in Africa before Europeans arrived. And absolutely teach them about European colonialism, the Atlantic slave trade, the barbarity of plantation slavery, and the laws that systematically deprived Black Americans of their liberty. But don’t you dare selectively edit history to manufacture an eternal racial grievance. Let’s teach Black children about Frederick Douglass, Harriet Tubman, Booker T. Washington, George Washington Carver, and the extraordinary accomplishments of Black Americans who refused to let oppression define the boundaries of their existence. Let’s teach them that African history did not begin with slavery and that Black American history did not end with emancipation. Let’s teach them about African civilizations, scientific achievements, entrepreneurship, intellectual independence, family formation, and the extraordinary resilience of our ancestors. And while we’re examining historical culpability, let’s examine the American political institutions that defended slavery, enacted Jim Crow laws, and resisted civil rights. Let’s name the politicians, examine their party affiliations, and acknowledge how those parties and their coalitions changed over time. No selective amnesia for anybody. Here’s where I fundamentally disagree with you. You appear more interested in teaching Black children whom to resent than teaching them what they can accomplish. My ancestors endured extraordinary suffering. Their suffering deserves historical accuracy, reverence, and remembrance. It does not require me to surrender my intellectual independence or teach my children that their destiny is controlled by people who lived centuries before them. History should produce knowledge, not inherited animosity. Teach the entire historical record, including the uncomfortable chapters that contradict your preferred narrative. Because a child who knows only the atrocities committed against his ancestors knows only a fraction of his ancestry. And that is an egregious intellectual disservice. I will teach my children what happened to their ancestors. But I will also teach them who their ancestors WERE before captivity, what they accomplished afterward, and what they themselves are capable of becoming. My God did not create my children to spend their lives shackled to the grievances of yesterday. Teach history. Don’t manufacture helplessness. #AStoneGroove #SilentMajoritySpeaks
Normalize teaching your children about the twin evils of slavery and colonization. Teach them who enslaved our ancestors, who colonized our lands, who stole our resources, and how their wealth was built on our suffering. Black children must know their history — a history written in sweat, tears and blood. Never let them forget it.

The Batarians by Mass Effect 3 are a dead species. Their systems were wiped out, their fleets, and 98% of their population were turned into the Reaper vanguard. A human and Krogan alliance would make sense only if we consider the genophage cute canon. Without the cure the Krogan would not be able to sustain a population after committing to the war effort since every able bodied Krogan would've been fighting the reapers. One of the strongest parts about Mass Effect as a series was how real the politics and world felt and this insight only makes it appear that they were planning on completely ruining the setting.
I can finally talk about Mass Effect Universe. Since Bioware closed I can now reveal that I was part of the Mass Effect Council, saw what BioWare was building, and provided feedback during development. • Set 600+ years after the Reaper War • You play as a customizable N7 agent • Instead of being a walking gun rack, you're a cross between John Wick and James Bond • Shepard's legacy preserved, regardless of your ending • A galaxy divided into three major factions • Humanity, Krogan, Batarians, and more allied together • Council races forming their own alliance • The Geth emerging as a third superpower • A galactic Cold War instead of another Reaper style invasion with a shadowy adversary • Geth-built megastructures • Connections between the Milky Way and Andromeda • Experimental technology implanted in you as a unique point of difference • Hacking and manipulating the environment • See through walls, identify systems, remotely trigger hazards and more • Handcrafted missions like ME1-3 • But with Hitman-style freedom in how you complete them • Brutal close-range executions • Squadmates who can clash with each other • Romance wasn't being sanitised • Liara returns - now an incredibly powerful Asari Matriarch From what I saw, BioWare was making Mass Effect for us, the fans, not for people who don't exist. It looked incredible. And now we may never get to play it. Find out more here: youtu.be/ZOWrTNazZxM #SaveMassEffect

I've picked up some heat from my previous tweet saying it makes no sense that the Humans are aligned with the Batarians. Everyone saying "It's been 600 years opinions can change" doesn't understand the full scope of why Humans aligning with the Batarians as a 2nd Clique makes no sense, and this isn't even a "Batarians icky" kind of deal. There simply wouldn't be any Batarians left to ally with, and if you'll indulge me, I'll explain why below. Short version: Batarians are straight fucked. Demographically, culturally, logistically fucked. We're talking 'six ways to Sunday' kind of fucked with no easy way out. There's very little chance of them making a rebound even in 600 years. Long version: Let's start with what we've seen and what we've been told in ME3 The Batarian core territories are right fucked. Most people only grasp this in vague terms. Yes, it's understood that the Batarians took the brunt of the Reapers' first strike with practically zero prep time, but it's far, far worse than that. Harvested Batarians were the backbone of the early Reaper war, and Cannibals remained a large bulk of encountered enemies up until the end. If we take the rough ratio of enemies encountered throughout ME3 as representative of the larger war effort, then Cannibals made up between 1/4th to 1/3rd of the entire Reaper frontline force ACROSS THE GALAXY. To do that in a galactic-scale war would require an incomprehensible amount of Batarians to be harvested, and this doesn't yet include the Batarians being harvested as biomass to create new Reapers. The bulk of those Batarians would be coming from Batarian Space. The non-human Reaper forces you face on Earth during Operation Hammer were probably harvested from the Citadel, which means even the Batarian refugees that hunkered down there were fucked too. So, what does that leave the Batarians to work with as a species? Well, to be frank, not much. Of the surviving Batarian population, most would be from the Batarian diaspora living in the surviving independent colonies and stations across the Terminus (a disproportionate number of which would be male mercenaries, pirates, and slavers). The surviving military forces would be a minority (and probably 100% male, let's be real), while the last minority group would be survivors from the home territories. It's unlikely the Citadel refugees made it out of the station before being liquidated. The most generous estimates would put them in the tens of millions, an insane drop from pre-war numbers of around 10-ish billion (15 if you want to believe Hegemony propaganda). So, to properly rebuild, the Batarians would have to: 1) Deal with a gender imbalance so insane, it makes the looming crisis in China today look tame. 2) Deal with the fact that all their infrastructure was vaporized by the Reapers. 3) Deal with the fact that a large proportion of their survivors are outlaws. 4) Survive long enough that the other races can sort out enough of their own shit to redirect resources to Batarian space. 5) Not devolve into 20th-century Chinese Warlordism. Even if they manage to get over all of those hurdles (which, let's be honest, is doubtful), best-case scenario, the Batarians would basically live in little reservations, like the Native American tribes of today. Worst-case scenario is they go extinct.
