Dear Serbia, you have made your voice heard! After nearly two years of protests for democracy, the rule of law and the fight against corruption, Serbians turned out in historic numbers. Congratulations to the Student List on your victory! These are the very values at the heart of our European Union. A new chapter can begin for Serbia. The door to the EU is open, and we are ready to move forward together.

My goodness me, Obama (today 👇) was already a class act - but all the more so compared to the utter trailer-trash ever since ...

Why Andy Burnham is making the right call to say that EU freedom of movement is not (or no longer) the problem portrayed by some, and why Britain would not have to join Schengen or the euro if it rejoined the EU: labourlist.org/2026/10/imagi…

EU Freedom of Movement is NOT an unconditional right under EU law: it is conditional on finding a job or being self-sufficient i.e. not being a burden on taxpayers. Otherwise they have no right to stay. #BBCLauraK

Whose fault was that Frostie? We had no idea because we didn't count anyone in or anyone out. We had literally no idea. Other EU countries require you to register at the council, you get a police check and they ask whether you've got a job and enough money. When I asked Teresa May why she didn't deploy this policy she said "It's just not British". We've no-one to blame for this immigration negligence but ourselves.
It is hardly surprising that someone open to rejoining the EU would be open to free movement. Burnham's romanticised picture of EU membership ignores the fact that we literally had no idea who was coming into the country before 2016. We were always told there were 3 million EU citizens in Britain. When we counted them we discovered there were 6 million. Any attempt to return to free movement has to reckon with the fact that a country like Spain has legalised the status of a million plus illegal migrants since then, and with the very visible tensions and anxieties amongst EU member states on the subject. There can be no viable policy which doesn't involve HMG having full control over who comes into this country. We aren't there at the moment, but we will need to get there in the end. Andy Burnham may not understand this now, but he will have to do so eventually.

The biggest issues in front of the EU leaders today are the MFF and enlargement. Neither is going to be solved without treaty reform to modify Article 48(7) TEU and scrap Article 353 TFEU. #EUCO @eucopresident @vonderleyen rapporteur.com/opinion/facin…

Better get this in place before the French presidential elections, don't you think?
Under a new ‘institutional safeguard’, the EU could suspend a new member’s voting rights in the Council of the EU, following particularly serious cases involving breaches of EU values or violations of the principle of “sincere cooperation” rapporteur.com/news/kos-eu-t…

PM @andyburnham is right: Brexit has done more harm than good. His call for a new course deserves a serious European response. Let’s turn that opening into concrete choices for a closer EU–UK partnership to give citizens & businesses a more prosperous, secure future 🇪🇺🇬🇧

Burnham has done well. I've been arguing for years that the UK should have a serious enquiry into all its EU options. And PR is a prerequisite for rejoining the EU in all cases. @LibDems @UKLabour newstatesman.com/politics/br…
