i think leftists are the only people who understand how the free market works
MY FATHER IS 63 AND JUST TOOK HIS HOUSE OFF THE MARKET BECAUSE NOBODY CAME. Not a single walkthrough in five months. He wasn't flipping it. He bought that place back in 1996, raised four kids inside it, and needs to downsize because his hip is shot and maintaining a two-story yard is impossible now. Zillow just released data showing why nobody showed up. 840,000 active buyers nationwide. Lowest number in over a decade. 1.38 million sellers. Over half a million more people trying to get out than get in. Here's what killed it. Run a $450,000 mortgage at 7.2%. Pay every single month for five straight years, never miss a deadline, and you'll still owe roughly $425,000. Five years of hard labor. Twenty five grand of principal paid off. That's not buying a home. That's renting capital from a bank while paying property taxes for the privilege. So my father sits in a home he can't sell, can't maintain, and can't afford to leave. And the young buyers who want it can't afford the interest. THE SYSTEM IS BROKEN. ONE GENERATION CAN'T BUY IN AND ANOTHER CAN'T ESCAPE. Nobody is coming to save it.

Zillow did not release the cited data on 840000 active buyers or 1.38 million sellers. Redfin estimated ~929000 buyers and ~1.51 million sellers in September 2026; Zillow reported 1.39 million homes for sale but no matching buyer total. redfin.com/news/buyers-vsโ€ฆ zillow.com/news/zillows-sโ€ฆ

Personally, I am tired of pretending people I am ideologically opposed against are not intelligent. Pretending people with questionable values, morals or politics are handicapped intellectually (or in whatever we are evaluating in) is intellectually dishonest and lazy.

One day I will write an essay on the classes of Nigerians we have. Breaks my heart how we live in a Nigeria of layers. How is it that 60yrs after so called Independence you still have communities that look like something from the stone age? And how these folks are treated like...

South African was never a first world country in the 1900s South Africa had the population of 40m as of 1994 yet 20m South Africans lived in poverty (50% of the population) How can you be a first world country with half your citizens living in abject poverty?? South Africa was only a first world country for the colonizers the black population couldnโ€™t experience it
south africa went from a first world country with nuclear power and one of the largest railway systems in the world to a third world country in just 30 years progress is not a guarantee. decay is the natural state of things

The people in the comment section are worried about the attire; meanwhile the bigger issue is the child working as a house maid. How is this legal???

Look, I get that people are pissed about this thingโ€”thereโ€™s a lot to be mad about. But I was raised by a civil servant, and time and again, Iโ€™ve learned that systems collapse gradually, not all at once. Nobody shows up on their first day of work and decides to destroy archives or anything. Quite often, itโ€™s a series of small decisions, small things we let fester here and there. Culture is whatever a system rewards or punishes. But the thing about Nigeria is that while weโ€™re always late to one party (the things weโ€™ve lost are lost), I think itโ€™s important to know weโ€™re also always early to another. So much has been lost, but so much can still be done. And it doesnโ€™t have to be big things; just pick the little things. For example, if someone in your family was a teenager when Nigeria became independent, statistically, they might be dead in a decade or way less. Sit with them and press record; they have so much to say, and so few people willing to listen. Just listen and press record. In whatever language they understand, no matter how little your understanding of it. Keep the family album. Use your phone to photograph them. Keep the tapes. Much of what our civilisation learned about fighting COVID-19 came from what we learned about the Spanish Flu of 1918: a mix of official records documenting death rates, etc., and personal correspondence that captured the experience of living through it. Personal history is family history is national history.

Less than two decades ago, they moved a new Oga to NTA Lagos, and to make room for them, they emptied the tape storage and converted it into an office. Rain beat the tapes to decay.

She knows. They all know. Not just about the evil being done but what they can and โ€œcanโ€™tโ€ say about it. Itโ€™s so nauseating and horrifying to see it laid bare so clearly.
This is an amazing clip. The terror once she realizes she was live.

My screenwriting professors would always say that you have to get over the idea that something has โ€œbeen done.โ€ It hasnโ€™t been done BY YOU. I found it really inspiring/creatively liberating. I love this quote!

the fact that you exist as an entirely unrepeatable perspective on reality should fill you with an enormous sense of possibility. nobody can create from the exact place you create from. nobody can see through your eyes. take that seriously. make something of it.
