The consequences of a nuclear holy war in the Middle East would've dwarfed democrats winning this midterms. The Trump administration made the right call.

20 years ago, after Republicans suffered a blowout in the 2006 midterms, Rush Limbaugh shared a perspective many of us are feeling today: Rush: “I feel liberated, and I’m going to tell you as plainly as I can why. I no longer am going to have to carry the water for people who I don’t think deserve having their water carried… Now I’m liberated from having to constantly come in here every day and try to buck up a bunch of people who don’t deserve it, to try to carry the water and make excuses for people who don’t deserve it.”

Interesting result in TX-26 where Rep. Brandon Gill (R-TX) was re-elected. Gill won Denton County, TX by +3.6. Talarico won Denton County by +8. Voters there said yes to Gill, but no to Paxton.

A black man raised by a single mother and born in 1970s Crown Heights, last night became the first elected black governor of Florida, a state whose slave-owning Civil War-era governor actually committed suicide when he realized the war was lost. Seen any celebration of that from the usual diversity milestone celebrators?

The biggest failure of Republicans, this election cycle and generally, is their inability to see the bigger picture. Elections will always swing back and forth. That is how it goes. Democrats understand how to entrench advantages so they can keep getting their way even when they are out of power. The fact that a federal district court has gone for a quarter of the century without a single Republican appointed judge is completely insane. It gives Democrats a permanent forum for getting their way. There are many similar examples. Republicans’ insistence on holding on to a 109-year-old rule, apparently out of some misguided notion of tradition, is totally inexcusable. They are unlikely to replace Supreme Court justices at this point without Democrats responding by stacking the Court. But they can do what Biden’s autopen did during the lame duck and fill district court seats on a massive scale over the next few weeks, provided Grassley and other Republicans play along, which is of course far from likely.
That's the Senate. Mitch McConnell and now John Thune have allowed Calif's two Democrat Senators to simply refuse to allow consideration of nominees by the Trump Admin for open N.D. Calif seats. As a result, you have 7 Obama appointees and 7 Biden appointees. The last District Judge in NDCA appointed by a GOP President -- Jeffrey White -- was nominated by Pres. GWB in 2002. That's 24 years without a single GOP nominee to a Court with 14 District Judges. Overall -- not just current Judges: Biden -- 7 Obama -- 11 Clinton -- 8 Carter -- 3 Trump -- 0 GWB -- 1 GHWB -- 5 Reagan -- 5 Since Clinton's election in 1992, Dem Presidents have appointed 26 District Judges in the Northern District of California and GOP Presidents have appointed one 1. That's a period of 34 years.

Replying to @shipwreckedcrew
Maybe for when things settle down, if they ever do: 14 judges in a district, all appointed by Obama or Biden. Is it possible to reform the Judiciary? Or the Senate judicial appointment process? How can we restore some semblance of balance?

Good Lord have higher standards for lefty religious people. This is insulting to those who actually are.
One of the more exciting parts of this election - among many - is the return of a religious left.

Here’s the thing, Nancy. Last night wasn’t just the American people defeating Republicans. It was the American people rejecting the establishment, spineless, corporate wing of the Democratic Party. Makes no sense to maintain the leadership of that wing.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Comparing candidates on electoral swings shows the opposite: progressive candidates vastly underperformed the moderate ("establishment") ones. Without the large shift seen in the national electoral environment, they likely would have lost. x.com/micah_erfan/st…

Iran clearly had SOME effect, but that would logically be more suppressive of our voters than boosting theirs! Thats the whole "Trump broke his promise not to start wars" thesis. Abbott didnt run short on votes. Gina just got more.

The GOP actually didn’t do that badly by average midterm standards. Dems voted like it was a presidential election because unlike the retard right who think “nothings happening” the left understood how existential Trumps actions are for them.
It wasn't the war...mathmatically. Take TX. Abbott got 58k fewer votes in 2026 than in 2022 Gina H in 2026 got 1.5 MILLION more than Beto in 2022! GOP votes weren't down that much. 2026 Abbot would have easily beaten 2022 Beto. Dems numbers were up. Thats the problem.

Noting Megan's stats below - not sure if measured by reliable polling but given many GOP politicos went wobbly on life issues, wonder how many traditional conservative voters decided there was no lesser of two evils?
In looking at causes for tonight’s results, one important data point—in the 2022 midterms, around 24% of white evangelical Christians (the most reliably conservative bloc of religious voters) voted. In 2026, only 17% did. In other words, a significant amount of America’s salt decided not to have flavor when it comes to elections. And when that happens, it fails to preserve. nbcnews.com/politics/2026-el…

Looks like one of Erick Erickson's idols escaped its smashing fate Tuesday night.
I wrote this in March and MAGA evangelicals treated it like heresy. Yet it's exactly what I heard time and again in Texas, from Texas Christians. nytimes.com/2026/03/08/opini… "Talarico is one of the few openly Christian politicians in the United States who acts like a Christian, and by acting like a Christian, he reveals a profound contrast with so many members of the MAGA Christian movement that’s dominated American political life for 10 years."

No. Evangelicals treated him as a heretic. He behaves how non-Christians think Christians are. It’s Ned Flanders-ism. Inoffensive, easy believism. Asks nothing of you. Offers you nothing but affirmation in return.
