Published in the Journal of Cartilage & Joint Preservation, this randomized controlled trial compared platelet-rich plasma (PRP) alone with PRP plus hyaluronic acid (HA) in 64 participants with symptomatic knee osteoarthritis[1]. Both groups demonstrated improvement from baseline across the reported WOMAC, IKDC, and KOOS5 outcomes, with no statistically significant differences detected between the treatment groups[1]. The authors concluded that PRP alone and PRP administered with hyaluronic acid performed similarly through 24 months, although reduced follow-up limited the statistical strength of the analysis beyond 12 months[1]. In this series of BreakThrough™ With Christopher Adams, MD, leading surgeons Michael A. Gallizzi, MD; Raymond J. Gardocki, MD; Saqib Hasan, MD; and Christopher A. Yeung, MD, explore the latest innovation in percutaneous pars fracture repair. Common in adolescent and young adult athletes,[1] pars interarticularis stress fractures can result from repetitive extension forces on the lumbar spine. These injuries are frequently observed in sports such as gymnastics, football, and cheerleading. Explore how minimally invasive percutaneous pars fracture repair uses a fully threaded spine compression screw to directly stabilize the fracture. October 16 is recognized as #WorldSpineDay, to bring awareness of spinal health and the importance of physical activity worldwide. #ArthrexSpine is focused on minimizing soft-tissue damage through ultra-minimally invasive endoscopic treatments supported by advanced instrumentation and unparalleled surgical skills training, all aimed at motion preservation. We’ve been thinking about a simple question we ask surgeons: What do your patients want to get back to? The answers are often the everyday things such as running, playing a round of golf, or walking the dog without pain. It’s a good reminder that spine surgery isn’t just about a procedure. It’s about helping people get back to their lives and the things they enjoy. We’re grateful to the surgeons who share that goal and continue to push the field of endoscopic spine surgery forward. New clinical evidence reports encouraging outcomes with the Arthrex minimally invasive FiberTak® Achilles SpeedBridge™ repair implant system for insertional Achilles pathology. Although the traditional open approach has been the standard for many years, minimally invasive techniques for insertional Achilles have gained popularity as surgeons seek to reduce wound complications associated with this anatomy. Some surgeons have chosen to perform indirect procedures without directly addressing the insertional pathology to provide higher-risk patients a minimally invasive option. The Arthrex MIS FiberTak Achilles SpeedBridge technique allows surgeons to debride bony and soft-tissue pathology and repair the Achilles tendon to bone through a minimally invasive approach. This technique combines the best of both worlds. These studies reported encouraging functional outcomes, low wound complication rates, and favorable postoperative pain results compared with open procedures with or without arthroscopy and the addition of immediate postoperative weight-bearing. New from Arthrex Spine: percutaneous compression screws for pars fracture fixation. As the only fully threaded, hydroxyapatite (HA)-coated compression screws on the market with a specific indication for pars fracture repair in adult and adolescent patients (12 years of age and older), these implants are designed to deliver compression across the fracture site while helping preserve the native motion segment. When restoring anatomy and preserving motion are priorities, having implants and instrumentation designed for the approach matters. The system combines specialized compression screws, drill guides, and compatible instrumentation to support percutaneous, motion-preserving fixation in appropriately selected patients.
