Everyone at Type 40 is shocked and saddened to read of the loss of Sir Patrick Stewart... Whilst appearing as Macbeth at London's Gielgud Theatre in 2007, Sir Patrick spoke about how he was preparing to work with David Tennant in a Royal Shakespeare Company production of Hamlet the following year. In an interview with Scotland's The Press and Journal, he said of Doctor Who: "I have been [a fan] actually, yes. And deeply dismayed that I was never asked to be in it - I think it's a terrific series." Whilst rumours persisted for a time afterwards that Sir Patrick was being lined up to take the role of the errant Time Lord, The Monk, in Doctor Who this never came to pass.
