You want to pump up the Star Trek hype back to that peak era? Competition is the key! The hype alone will sell it! So here’s the Win-Win idea: Meet with Vic Mignogna the creator of Star Trek Continues and Alec Peters, the creator of #Axanar for this marketing film competition proposal. -Give them a $10,000,000 budget each. -Let them make their films with total creative control. -Release both in theaters. -The studio owns everything from the budget either way. -If it flops, it’s cheap marketing for the Star Trek IP. -If it hits, they’ve got a franchise or two that they didn’t have to invent, built by people who already proved they can capture the lightning in a bottle. ⚡️ 🍾 Think about it we have fan films like #StarTrekContinues that had pulled roughly 19,000,000 views on YouTube across its 11 episodes; the pilot alone sits at three point 9,000,000. Starfleet Academy’s entire 10‑episode season pulled about 400,000 total views. That’s not a marketing gap. That’s a product gap, and it happened on the same platform, with a studio marketing machine behind it. And the studio’s own numbers tell the same story. The Kelvin trilogy, the 2009 reboot, Into Darkness, and Beyond, all together grossed about $1,200,000,000 combined, but after $200,000,000 budgets and marketing, the studio lost money on the whole run. Beyond alone lost roughly $50,000,000. Section 31, Kurtzman’s streaming film, got 17% on Rotten Tomatoes and pulled under 2,000,000 viewers. Starfleet Academy reportedly cost around $10,000,000 per episode and was canceled after one season. Discovery, Picard, and the whole Kurtzman expansion were rolled back after the #Skydance merger precisely because they were too expensive to sustain. I mean, is it the only reason this Star Trek marketing movie competition doesn’t happen is that it works? 💁🏻‍♂️ How does someone like Kurtzman lose this badly for a studio over a decade and still get to make deconstructed Star Trek to the point it gets completely cancelled? When on the other hand, these two fan show creators have exactly what it is that everyone loves about Star Trek, and are penalized for giving fans what they want...
