A young woman was running down a road with her hands handcuffed behind her back. Behind her, a man in a Cadillac kept chasing her, repeatedly trying to run her down. Every time she crossed the road to escape, the car followed. Then she saw a massive truck approaching from the opposite direction. Desperate and with nowhere else to turn, she ran toward it, hoping the driver would stop. The incident happened in Aiken County, South Carolina. The young woman had recently graduated from high school when a stranger approached her, pretending to be a police officer. He handcuffed her, forced her into his Cadillac and drove her to an isolated area. When he stopped and began searching his trunk, she saw her chance. She climbed over the back seat and escaped through the driver’s door. But her attacker quickly got back into the car and pursued her. That’s when truck driver Anthony Moore spotted her. She reached his truck and begged him for help, explaining that she had been kidnapped. The suspect then pulled alongside the truck, displayed what appeared to be a police badge and claimed he was an officer. But the young woman insisted he was lying. Anthony believed her and refused to hand her over. Another passing motorist stopped and called 911. With help arriving, the suspect finally fled. The stranger who had stopped also helped remove the handcuffs from the young woman’s wrists. Anthony’s dashcam footage later helped investigators identify and arrest the suspect. Anthony said he believed God had placed him on that road for a reason. What began as an ordinary drive became a moment that changed someone’s life. He chose to listen, believe her and step in when she desperately needed help. And he wasn’t alone. The other motorist who stopped and called 911 played an important part, too. Sometimes courage is simply refusing to drive past someone in danger. Anthony Moore and the stranger who stopped deserve to be recognised.
