SHE'S A TEENAGER, NOT A BRIDE. LET'S HELP VERONICA REBUILD HER LIFE🙏🧎♀️
Today, Bonnicare Foundation is appealing for urgent support for Veronica, a teenager who was forced into marriage by her father and taken from Cross River State to Plateau State to live with a man in his forties, old enough to be her father.
When she finally reached out to our founder @EduEle5 on April 16, she was terrified and pleaded for rescue.
She didn't even know what part of Jos she was taken to.
After days of searching and working with child protection authorities, we were able to rescue her. At the police station, the man spoke repeatedly about the money he had paid her father, mentioning 600,000 thousand naira, while Veronica sat crying, insisting that she did not know him and did not want to be his wife.
Since then, we have spent two months moving her through safe locations, protecting her from threats, and helping her start over.
Today, Veronica is safe with a caring family, but she needs support.
She dropped out of school in SS1. She had only just begun learning tailoring before her life was turned upside down. Her dream is simple: to learn a skill, become independent, and build a future for herself.
We are looking to raise ₦3,000,000 for her education, welfare, and skills training.

No child should be forced into marriage.
No teenager should have to beg for the right to choose her own future.
Please help us give Veronica that chance. 🙏💔 #bonnicarefoundation

📍Seven months after Veronica was rescued from a forced marriage to a man in his 40s in Plateau State, a lot has happened since our last update.
We want to thank everyone who donated towards her rescue, welfare and skill acquisition.
Today, we are asking you to help us raise ₦2 million to enable Veronica start her business and provide a roof over her head...This is where the lasting Sustainability comes in.
THE FIGHT DIDN'T END WITH HER RESCUE.
We were also worried about her 15-year-old younger sister, who was at risk of similar abuse and just like we feared, less than three months later, we received report from from her father that Veronica's 15 year old younger sister was sexually abused by a man in Obudu, given abortion medication by him without her knowledge, and left bleeding so badly that she nearly lost her life. The man is now on the run.
Veronica's father has since asked us to help his younger daughter, too. Sadly, we currently lack the resources to take on another case.
RECALL THAT VERONICA CAME BACK FROM PLATEAU WITH ALMOST NOTHING.
She had only one bag with barely any clothes. We bought clothes for her, and I personally gave her many of my own clothes.
We found a woman willing to accommodate her while she learnt a skill. We agreed to provide ₦50,000 monthly for her feeding and welfare. We have paid for four months since June, but the funds we previously raised have now run out.
Thankfully, Veronica has completed her three-month skill acquisition programme! 🥹 She is ready to start earning a living, and we want to help her establish a small business.
Returning to her family is now more complicated. Her father says the matter cannot be resolved until money allegedly spent by the man on police-related issues during her rescue is refunded.
He has also expressed fears that members of the family, starting from himself could die if the money for the marriage was not paid back in full. He further claims Veronica may be required to participate in a naked cleansing ritual in the community because she ran away.
He specifically told me that since we had the money to recuse her, we should also spend the money to pay her husband back🤷
Most importantly, he mentioned that the man didn't completely pay for Veronica's dowry requirements and admitted handing over Veronica for credit to him🤦
What we know is that Veronica deserves safety, not more suffering for choosing to escape a forced marriage.
PLEASE HELP US GIVE VERONICA A NEW BEGINNING. 🥺
We are raising ₦2 MILLION naira to help her:
• Secure a small shop or suitable space for her business.
• Purchase basic equipment and materials.
• Receive a small starting grant to begin earning an income.
We also need support to sustain her accommodation and welfare, which cost ₦50,000 monthly. An alternative will be to rent a selfcon for her to stay alone, for a girl at risk ❌
If we cannot secure a shop immediately, we will explore a smaller, safe way for her to start earning. We also welcome donations of baking utensils and supplies.
Please, help us help Veronica. Every contribution, no matter how small, brings her closer to a life she can call her own. If you cannot donate, please share this appeal. 🙏

Nigerians, please help me. 🧎♀️🙏
On the 16th of April, I received a call from a frightened teenager named Veronica.
She told me that her father had forced her into marriage sometime in March to a man in his forties.
She had been taken all the way from Cross River State to Plateau State, where she was trapped with a complete stranger.
We spent days trying to locate her because she didn't even know where she was.
I reported the case to the Chairperson of Child Protection in Plateau State, who then linked me with Vivien Abara. 💪 Together, we rescued her from that house, even though the man had already alerted security operatives within the area to prevent her escape.
At the police station, he kept talking about the ₦600,000 and other payments he had made to her father. Meanwhile, Veronica kept crying and insisting that she did not know him and wanted nothing to do with him.
Since then, I have moved her through two different temporary shelters across two geopolitical zones in Nigeria.
Today, we need your help to raise atleast ₦3,000,000 to support Veronica's feeding, education, welfare, accommodation, and skills training as she begins rebuilding her life.

We have now found a caring family who has already taken her, but they need support to meet her daily needs and necessities.
Veronica stopped school in SS1. Before this happened, she had just begun learning tailoring. She struggles to even read and write properly because the quality of education she received was extremely poor.
She dreams of continuing her tailoring training so she can stand on her own feet, or, if possible, return to school and complete her education.
Her father and the man she was forced to marry are still threatening her.
The man has sworn not to let her go. But no law in Nigeria can force a teenager to remain married to a stranger against her will.
The Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Act (VAPP Act) also protects her from forced marriage and other forms of abuse.
As an organisation @BONCAFO , we have completely exhausted our internal resources through the rescue, relocation, return, and placement process over the past two months.
In the last three weeks alone, I have personally spent more than ₦300,000.
There are many details I cannot publicly disclose for the safety of Veronica and everyone who has helped along the way.
At this point, silence is no longer helping her case. Veronica is ready to tell the world what happened to her and plead for her father and this man to stop forcing her into a marriage she never wanted.
No teenager should ever have to endure this kind of pain, fear, and trauma.
If we had any other means, we honestly would not be here.
We are a small but growing organisation, honoured to serve as a safety net for vulnerable members of society through the support of people like you.

As we wrap up Women's Month, I want to share our Success Story with you all.🧎♀️🥳
@BONCAFO Produced by me @Crea8tivistGlob
In many Nigerian homes, an old belief has been passed down for generations:
“A man must have a son” one to carry his name, inherit his land, and keep the family lineage alive.
Meet Christiana, the fifth daughter in a family of six girls. Her father wanted a son more than anything in the world and this led to neglect.
For the past four years, Bonnicare Foundation has been sponsoring her to the university through your kind donations.
Today, Christiana is in her final year studying Public Administration with a strong 3.96 CGPA. In five months, she will graduate. A girl whose education nearly ended is crossing a finish line.

As an organization dedicated to ethical storytelling, we carry a responsibility that many people don’t always see.
A lot of the girls we support have deeply sensitive and unique stories. Because of this, we cannot always show their faces or share their situations publicly as often as we would like. It takes a lot to keep these cases going quietly, responsibly, and with dignity.
If you have ever wanted to support an organization that truly walks the talk when it comes to standing for the girl child, this is one way you can help.
