Went deep w @jordihays and @johncoogan on why we prioritized humans-in-the-loop instead of another AI personal assistant.
We spent months measuring where AI fails on care coordination tasks, and turned our results into a benchmark at callbaba.com/bench.
Lots more RL work ahead. If you’re an engineer and this sounds interesting, shoot me a note at [email protected].

.@BabaHQ is modernizing the last mile of healthcare for people on Medicare. Each person gets a dedicated advocate: a nurse, social worker, or benefits specialist equipped with AI. They book appointments, chase down benefits, and stay by each person’s side until they get the care they need.
We’re proud to be deepening our partnership by doubling down in Baba’s $40M Series A.

Today, Baba raised a $40M Series A.
We give each Medicare member and their family a dedicated team of advocates and behavioral health experts to keep every part of their care moving forward. In a world obsessed with AI personal assistants, it’s never been more important to have expert humans in the loop to go the last mile, particularly in healthcare.
Our advocates have moved mountains for their patients - finding safe housing for the near-homeless, recertifying Medicaid for those about to lose their benefits, and getting financial assistance for people cutting their pills to afford groceries.
In the process, we’ve used AI to scale the impact this special team can have. And to truly teach AI to reason and execute like the best care coordinators, we’ve built the largest learning environment for the type of work that we do everyday.
There is still a lot to do: we’ve served fewer than 1% of the 70 million Americans on Medicare.
Baba does not lack capital or customer demand. Our ability to seize this opportunity is now limited by the capacity of our team. If you’re an exceptional engineer or operator in New York, come build with us: callbaba.com/join.
Our Series A was led by @FirstMarkCap , with @CVSHealth, @valtruis, @generalcatalyst, @geniusventures, and @GroundUpVC investing alongside them.
Everyone’s chatbot can book a doctor’s appointment.
The real test is whether you can earn the trust of a Spanish-speaking diabetic woman, walk her through a Medicaid application while finding her secure housing, and coach her into choosing a 12oz (instead of 16oz) soda along the way.
Today we’re sharing BabaBench, a benchmark measuring how frontier models perform the real work of healthcare coordination. Our synthetic worlds are built from annotations by Baba’s in-house team of hundreds of expert doctors, therapists, nurses, and social workers.
Turns out, AI alone isn’t ready to replace human care coordination.
Across tens of thousands of patient journeys, each intervention by our human clinicians shows us the most efficient paths to positive health outcomes.
We built specific harnesses for the quality gap tasks we see every day. Our advocates step in for last-mile fixes if the agents fail.
When the consequences of agents making mistakes are so high, the last mile of completion matters a lot.
See our results at callbaba.com/bench.

very excited to be joining @BabaHQ as a design intern in NYC this winter !! 🗽🍎
really believe in what they’re building + their mission to make healthcare easier and more accessible for people.
so grateful to @_ConnorSweeney & the Baba team for taking a bet on me ٩(ˊᗜˋ*)و
(p.s. lmk if you're in NYC this winter :-D)
Very excited to announce that Alan Li is joining Baba as Founding Designer.
Alan joins us from Ramp, where he spent over 3.5 years as a Staff Product Designer. His career spans an incredible range of companies and roles, going all the way back to running his own design agency.
Anyone who knows Alan will tell you how quickly he finds opportunities to create user delight in the most mundane product interactions - and we've already seen it firsthand. Even before officially starting, he was deep in the weeds building conversational agents and pushing our thinking on the opportunity ahead.
Our goal at Baba is to create abundant case management for the most overlooked members of society, and doing that well demands understanding the underappreciated connection between healthspan and wealthspan. At Ramp, Alan spent years helping businesses save time and money. Turns out, that isn't just for enterprise.
Welcome to the team, Alan!

I’m thrilled to announce Baba, The American Healthcare Company.
Baba connects older adults and their families with dedicated advocates who can coordinate their care. Our advocates are nurses and social workers who have worked at the front lines of the healthcare system for decades, and who can get folks the resources they need.
This company was born of a family tragedy and has grown to support thousands of families across every corner of the country.
