At a high level, it's pro-EU/globalist forces pitted against pro-Polish nationalist forces. At the risk of grossly oversimplifying things, imagine an America where Donald Trump is President, Hakeem Jeffries is Speaker of the House, Chuck Schumer is the Majority Leader of the Senate, and Jeffries/Schumer just declared the US Supreme Court illegitimate, they sent the Capitol Police to surround the Supreme Court building, and the police are preventing the Chief Justice from entering the building. That’s sort of what is going on in Poland as we speak.
