The narrative that bigs have been turned into guards is another one that I just don’t understand, and if anyone can find me more than maybe three 7’ guys who ACTUALLY play like guards in college, I’d be very very surprised… Bigs are used WAY more on the perimeter these days for sure, but they’re not coming off screens, attacking off the bounce, etc. like a guard would They’re (1) playing as a hub, distributing and pulling shot blockers away from the basket, (2) setting a higher frequency of ball screens (because it’s clearly the easiest way to create an advantage and who would want a 1v1 post up when you can get a 1v0 dunk or an open shot), and (3) similarly, playing out of the short roll and facilitating in 4v3s Just because they spend less time attacking a neutral, stagnant defense with a post up, are trusted to be more active, and can occasionally stretch the floor on pops doesn’t mean they’re “playing like guards and ruined basketball”
