It is somehow not surprising that a Reddit moderator has the most unemployed possible take on AI
r/opensource now doesnt accept AI-assited projects do you know what project uses AI-assisted code? the Linux kernel. the LINUX KERNEL ISNT ACCEPTED by r/opensource now.

Insane policy from the open source Reddit. Will only make it harder for defenders to do their job. Not surprising - reddit is a horrid positive feedback loop of virtue signaling and confirmation bias.

Coding agents exist. They’re exposing vulnerabilities that exist in predominantly human-written software. Most of the CVEs we’re finding are via defenders using frontier models. Policies like this will simply make open source software less secure. Signal that virtue bozos!

Just think about it pragmatically. Threat actors can use ablated open source models at scale. That is true regardless of anyone’s feelings. It is reality. The question is now rather simple: do you want defenders to have their hands tied behind their back?

Very true. With how many new things they add each patch (including .5 and .7 patches) it makes it unfun to be a collector. Also the marl and similar currencies from previous expansions is annoying. Unless you are playing many characters for the whole expansion how are you supposed to get all the items? Maybe just add a way to sell/buy marl at the end of the expansion?

Aye, @towelthetank is right here imo. I feel we’ve rapidly fell into a quantity over quality situation with collectibles. And it all feels kinda homogenised?

I can finally talk about Mass Effect Universe. Since Bioware closed I can now reveal that I was part of the Mass Effect Council, saw what BioWare was building, and provided feedback during development. • Set 600+ years after the Reaper War • You play as a customizable N7 agent • Instead of being a walking gun rack, you're a cross between John Wick and James Bond • Shepard's legacy preserved, regardless of your ending • A galaxy divided into three major factions • Humanity, Krogan, Batarians, and more allied together • Council races forming their own alliance • The Geth emerging as a third superpower • A galactic Cold War instead of another Reaper style invasion with a shadowy adversary • Geth-built megastructures • Connections between the Milky Way and Andromeda • Experimental technology implanted in you as a unique point of difference • Hacking and manipulating the environment • See through walls, identify systems, remotely trigger hazards and more • Handcrafted missions like ME1-3 • But with Hitman-style freedom in how you complete them • Brutal close-range executions • Squadmates who can clash with each other • Romance wasn't being sanitised • Liara returns - now an incredibly powerful Asari Matriarch From what I saw, BioWare was making Mass Effect for us, the fans, not for people who don't exist. It looked incredible. And now we may never get to play it. Find out more here: youtu.be/ZOWrTNazZxM #SaveMassEffect

The source was wrong. The STUDIOS budget for ALL GAMES was 400-500m. Any journalist using a leaked number is conflating the entire studios budget with E-Day. The budget includes the remaster and support of other titles, like Avowed on Unreal Engine.
A source tells Kotaku that Gears of War: E-Day cost over $500 million to make. Sales estimates have been weak despite earning the highest Metacritic score since the original trilogy. If it was never going to recoup its expenses, maybe it could achieve more as an Xbox console exclusive kotaku.com/the-case-for-excl…

A purported BioWare developer has leaked a trailer for the cancelled ME 5 on Reddit. The footage, reportedly titled "MASS EFFECT UNIVERSE," appears to suggest the project was further along in development. Its authenticity remains unverified. #MassEffect

Holy fuck. $500m for E Day. (There are potential mitigating factors, but still, wow)
Yes, so this, from what I'm told, is very true. $500 million. Unbelievable.

Retail still has players. They just don't log-in as much any more, and for good reason. Something needs to change at Blizzard. youtu.be/71pE0Fw_IU4

A video like this only does that well if there's a large, engaged pool of people with a desire to play Modern. They might be lapsed, or dissatisfied. But if they truly didn't care, they wouldn't watch.

Good post. Many outside of eng haven’t internalised the progress of the last few months.
Can I be honest for a sec? Regarding LLMs in gaming, I feel more confused than ever. And I would like my peers and other people who are familiar in this field to chime in. It’s barely been a week since I made my post about distancing myself from a vibe coded project made by my friend in Smash. I even said “AI has no place in gaming”. After I made that post, I was reached out to by multiple colleagues in the space and people hired full time in software development. They educated me severely on the topic and I feel dumb now for my earlier sentiments. I was informed by my colleagues that it is now the norm to do 90% (and this is low estimate apparently) of all your coding with AI assistance or vibe coding. 75% of all new code at Google is made by AI and engineer approved. The vast majority of all the apps we use now are updated or maintained with AI coding - I imagine that also goes for Twitter, the very app you’re reading this on. So I figured okay - it’s here to stay in all software development - but where does that leave video games? I saw the posts from Epic Games, XBOX, and other publishers that seem to embrace the new era instead of rejecting it. In the last week I’ve been sent about a dozen different projects like this one that dissect and reintegrate Melee in multitudes of creative ways. One of them is even a build of Melee that runs natively at 120FPS and one of them simulates the feeling of a CRT almost perfectly. Some of them feel silly and useless, like low effort projects someone probably gave a single prompt and an ISO of Melee to build. Actual slop. And yet some feel like legitimately useful things that the community or people practicing could benefit from. I’m doing my best to navigate what is clearly a rapidly changing sector, especially when we regard the question of “Are Video Games Art?” And since they clearly are art, does that render AI in its development a bastardized amalgamation of what’s been “learned” from people with actual original ideas? Or is it strictly optimal to use AI in game development because games ARE software and therefore a necessary tool to wield in this day and age? I am making this post because I need more guidance on this topic and I feel open discussion on it might be the best way to do that.
