Huge news! Sweden has made history by becoming the first country in the world to become cage-free without a legal ban.
In the UK, we have been campaigning on this issue for decades. Millions of farmed animals are suffering in cramped, cruel conditions. It's time to #CutTheCages.

Just because non-vegans are the majority, doesn't mean they're right...
Here's why plant-based & vegan lifestyles are the right thing to do:
Animal agriculture is a leading driver of deforestation, pollution, biodiversity loss, and water use, and is linked to significant emission output. Most animal-derived foods take a heavy toll on the planet, including beef, pork, dairy, lamb, chicken, eggs, and fish.
The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics confirm that plant-based diets are appropriate for all life cycle stages, and athletes. Furthermore, the academy points out that vegans have a lower risk of certain health conditions and chronic diseases.
It is estimated that around 92 billion land animals are killed for food each year. On top of that, approximately two trillion fish are killed annually.
Animals killed for food suffer immensely. Around 70 percent of farmed animals in the world are factory farmed. This number is 85 percent in the UK, and 99 percent in the USA. Factory farmed animals are crammed together in sheds, kept in cages too small for them to turn around in, and will often never get to see the outside.
All animals, whatever farm they are raised in, did not choose to be there. They are prevented from living a life that’s natural to them, and they are prematurely slaughtered against their will.

We say we love animals. But loving animals means more than liking dogs or cats.
It means seeing farm animals like pigs, cows and chickens as individuals too. It means not paying for their suffering. If we truly love animals, our actions should reflect that.

We're thrilled that #Veganuary2025 made such a significant impact, and that together we were able to create real change - for the animals, the climate, and the whole planet. Every fork, every plate, every choice counts. 🥳🌱
Veganuary commissioned surveys in key campaign countries. Using this data and current population estimates for each country, we calculated that 25.8 million people worldwide participated in Veganuary this January to try a vegan diet! 💪

Every year, the world loses around 5 million hectares of forest, and 95% of this occurs in the tropics. The expansion of animal farming is responsible for around 41% of tropical deforestation. That’s 2.1 million hectares every year – about half the size of the Netherlands.
Soya and palm production together drive a further 18% of tropical deforestation, with more than three-quarters of soya and a large proportion of palm being used in animal feed, primarily for chickens and pigs.
