Former senior Labor politician dismisses his party for having lost the plot: “AUKUS is a defence, economic and social disaster for Australia — driven by naïve politicians, lobbyists, arms industry think tanks, and a revolving door of retired politicians, public servants, and military personnel. “Jargon such as this beggars belief: ▪️‘progressive patriotism’, ▪️‘steady progress’, ▪️‘all on track’, ▪️‘historic opportunities’, ▪️‘creating jobs’. “It is time for the Australian community to tell the Albanese government to stop treating all of us as mugs; enough is enough with this madness.” AUKUS has escaped proper scrutiny for five years. That is about to change pearlsandirritations.com/pos…

Absolute fire here from Monique Ryan: “She is a negative force in Australian politics.” For decades Pauline Hanson has been platformed and legitimised despite the racism, bigotry and division. If you’re going to give her the platform and the reach, then hold her to account.

Jess Wilson says if you vote before she releases her magic pudding costings, that’s essentially your own stupid fault for voting too early. My radical suggestion is that Jess Wilson release her costings before people vote.
Why can’t you release your costings this week, Jess Wilson?

My article on AUKUS. AUKUS is about madness, militarism and money. Turning Australia into a US military base, sacrificing our sovereignty, and enriching retired politicians, military and public servants while battlers struggle to put food on the table pearlsandirritations.com/pos…

“Why do some British people dislike Donald Trump?” Nate White, an eloquent and witty English writer, gave this magnificent answer: Trump lacks certain qualities that the British traditionally value. He has no nobility, no charm, no composure, no gravitas, no compassion, no wit, no warmth, no wisdom, no subtlety, no sensitivity, no self-awareness, no humility, no honour, and no grace — qualities with which, strangely enough, his predecessor, Mr Obama, was abundantly blessed. Although Trump may be ridiculous, he has never said anything ironic, amusing, or even remotely funny — not once, ever. I do not mean this rhetorically. I mean it literally: never. To the British, a lack of humour is almost inhuman. But with Trump, it is a fact. He does not even seem to understand what a joke is. To him, a joke is a crude remark, an illiterate insult, an act of casual cruelty. Trump is like a troll: he never laughs or enjoys himself; he merely squeals with delight or derision. And the most frightening thing is that he does not merely utter crude and stupid insults: he actually means them. His mind is nothing more than a robotic algorithm of petty prejudices and instinctive malice. There is no irony in him, no complexity, no subtlety, no depth. Everything is superficial. What we see is a man without an inner world, without a soul. In Britain, we traditionally side with David, not Goliath. All our heroes are courageous underdogs: Robin Hood, Dick Whittington, Oliver Twist. Trump is neither courageous nor an underdog. He is the exact opposite. He is not even merely a spoiled rich boy or a greedy fat cat. He is more like a giant white slug, a privileged Jabba the Hutt. And, worse still, he is a bully. When he finds himself among other bullies, he suddenly becomes a whining lackey. He punches down — something a gentleman should never, could never, and must never do — and every blow he delivers is below the belt. He particularly enjoys attacking the vulnerable or the voiceless, and he kicks them when they are down. That is why the fact that a substantial minority — perhaps a third — of Americans watch what he does, listen to what he says, and then think, “Yes, he seems like my kind of guy,” is a source of bewilderment and profound distress to the British. After all, it is impossible to read a single tweet of his or hear him utter a sentence or two without staring into the abyss. He turns shallowness into an art form. He is the Picasso of pettiness, the Shakespeare of shit. His flaws are fractal: even his flaws have flaws, and so on to infinity. There have always been stupid people in the world, and villains have never been in short supply either. But rarely has stupidity been so evil, or evil so stupid. He makes Nixon seem trustworthy and George W. Bush seem intelligent. If Frankenstein had decided to create a monster composed entirely of human flaws, he would have created Trump, and the remorseful Dr Frankenstein would have cried out in despair, “My God, what have I created?” If an idiot were a television show, Trump would be the entire set.

Jess Wilson has a rather remarkable proposition for the people of Kew tonight: give her another four years in Parliament, but don’t expect her to give you one evening of her time. Tonight is Kew’s only community candidates’ forum. Once every four years, candidates have the opportunity to front the people whose votes they’re asking for, defend their record and answer questions about what they intend to do next. Jess Wilson has decided she’d rather not. Instead, there’s an empty chair with her name on it. Which is a rather fitting illustration of how much accountability the people of Kew can apparently expect from their local MP. Four years ago, her former boss Josh Frydenberg did exactly the same thing to the people of Kooyong. Apparently, facing your own electorate is becoming an optional extra in the Liberal Party. Jess Wilson wants another four years representing Kew. She just doesn’t want to spend one evening answering to it.

Jess Wilson will preference One Nation and put more One Nation MPs in parliament. She will rely on those MPs to make her Premier. But when it comes to standing alongside One Nation’s VIc leader and answering to the Victorian people for that arrangement, Wilson won’t show up.

Zelenskyy: "When our strikes reached Yandex data centers, it suddenly became little easier to breathe on many social media platforms. Many people noticed it. There was less hate, less division, fewer provocations because there were fewer bots. It's pretty clear where those bots were coming from. If they disappeared when Yandex went offline, this proves once again that Europe is not the source of the problems." The big problem is that Russia figured out how modern society consumes information a decade ago, but the West hasn't. There are millions of bots commenting and posting Russian propaganda. There are paid influencers spreading it, with Russian bots supporting their content. There is a gigantic machine operating to radicalize and influence Western societies, and there is not enough defense in place. It doesn't just influence elections, it sows discord, engulfs societies in culture wars, radicalizes teenagers, and shapes political decisions when elected officials fail to read the room. That needs to change. And fast.

Australia is NOT a Christian country. It's a secular nation in practice and policy. There is no state religion. Australia is a multicultural country, with freedom of religion. One is free to practice the religion of one's choice, or none at all. Don't love it? LEAVE.
