My question is, how do reer Somaliland navigate qabiil politics when their family ties cross clan lines? Especially when your mother is Isaaq/Somalilander, but your own qabiil belongs to a different clan family.
For example, Yasmin Abdi is Hawiye, specifically Habar Gidir, yet she seems to embrace both Somalia and Somaliland. She even proudly spoke about her cybersecurity career beginning at Abarso Tech in Somaliland.
And please, spare me the “women don’t have qabiil” argument. 😭 I’ve seen men target women over clan identity, so let’s not pretend women are somehow exempt from these dynamics.
