This is something that is important to note in all the new "recompiled" games coming out. Many of them, as noted here, are still using emulated, translated graphics backends, and are not in fact a full decompile/recompile. It's like if a game company released a "native" linux build using WINE as a wrapper (a-la witcher 2). Sure, they are more convenient than setting up an emulator, but under the hood they are still emulating the graphics instead of natively rendering them. I say this because I understand the work that goes into actually decompile/recompiling/building your own graphics backend instead of using an emulator to translate it. Sure, I also promote using AI as an effective tool for working on this, but I think if decompiles/recompiles are going to be made, they need to be full, legitimate decompiles, not using translation layers, as that's where you can really crank out performance gains and other features and optimizations. I've been working on my gears of war 3 recompile for what seems like weeks if not months now simply because I am doing a full graphics backend recompile, NOT using xenia's xb360 graphics translator, and even I didn't start that from scratch, I used the SonicDE decompiled gpu backend as a base: xitter.cf/GloriousEggroll/status… Even now I'm still trying to fix a few fps drops during combat, but otherwise the framerate has massively improved due to putting in the time to try to fix it via decompiled/recompiled code, rather than just relying on xenia's translator and calling it a day. This is the current WIP result I have, which is more than playable but still needs some fixing on those drops. Mind you it's also upscaled to 4k, no FSR:

Jensen Huang went to Tokyo to thank the man who gave him $5 million 30 years ago. Without that money, Nvidia would not exist. In the mid-90s Sega was paying Nvidia to build the graphics chip for its next console. But Nvidia had bet on the wrong technology. The industry was going the other way, and the chip was never going to work. Jensen could keep building it and fail. Or quit and run out of money. He went to Sega's president, Shoichiro Irimajiri, and told him the truth. Nvidia's approach was wrong. Sega should find another partner. Then he asked Sega to pay anyway. Without that money, Nvidia was finished. Irimajiri said yes. Sega put in $5 million. Jensen later said it gave Nvidia six months to live. They used it to build a new chip, the RIVA 128. It sold over a million units and saved the company. Nvidia is now worth over $4 trillion. This summer Jensen stood in front of Irimajiri at a Sega arcade in Tokyo and thanked him. Would you have told your customer the truth? Follow me for more stories like this.

Pragmatic approach.
I dont care that the new EGS launcher is vibe coded. I dont care of they are using GE-Proton internally. Someone at Epic had to present these ideas and get them green lit, and regardless of reasoning be it for competition or for compatibility, an effort for linux compatibility is being made, and I can appreciate that. It's more than most have done in the past and I welcome it. I want linux to grow, not for people to chase growth out.
