Lost memories is the one that stings the most, and the one I fear the most as I continue to age. For me, my posts on X are a diary I hope to use in the coming years to recover lost thoughts and feelings.
“Every one of us is losing something precious to us. Lost opportunities, lost possibilities, feelings we can never get back again. That’s part of what it means to be alive.” — Haruki Murakami

Using a technology first discovered at Harvard, a baby's life is saved by UPenn doctors. A striking example of how science helps humanity. pennmedicine.org/news/news-r…

What I don't get about academia is the chronic lack of celebration. It is hard to get & maintain grant funding, hard to get papers accepted without Faustian bargains, hard to be a great mentor, & hard to maximize trainee success. All of it is hard. We should celebrate everything.

Working with EPI members @BoulantLab and @Megan_Stanifer, @UF_CLAS undergraduate Victoria tackles the pathogens that infect our intestines. "I'm getting the answer to questions that people have never asked before," she said. Watch the full video 📹: bit.ly/3WUWLNE.

How do low oxygen levels impact the viruses in our gut? Can understanding their relationship lead to better treatment of enteric viruses? #Rotavirus and #norovirus beware! The @BoulantLab's #research aims to take you down. 👊 Watch the full video 📹: bit.ly/4hXrDpN.

Happy to share our new manuscript out today in @PLOSPathogens Great effort by Enkai Li, a new postdoc in the lab, the paper demonstrates that rotavirus NSP1 mediates viral dissemination to extra-intestinal organs and is responsible for biliary obstruction. journals.plos.org/plospathog…

I have a similar opinion of that time I spent. Massive props to @BoulantLab @Megan_Stanifer for giving me a space to be me and nourish my interests whilst balancing the (tremendous) pressures of starting a group!
Replying to @michael_nielsen
I can't resist adding: my PhD was one of the most profound learning / transformation experiences of my life. That owes a lot to both the broad and specific creative culture I was in, as well as many remarkable individuals (Carl Caves, Ben Schumacher, Gerard Milburn, Manny Knill, Chris Fuchs, Ike Chuang, and others...)

Location matters! An epithelial cell’s position within a population determines its response to interferons through cell polarization & basolateral localization of the #interferon receptor ➡️ embopress.org/doi/full/10.10… @BoulantLab @Megan_Stanifer @UFMedicine #cellheterogeneity

Congrats to @CamilaMetz for this super cool paper on how the population context and cell polarisation drive the heterogenous response to IFN! Just published in @MolSystBiol @BoulantLab @Megan_Stanifer @Fraaank89 @Yagmur__Keser @CiidHeidelberg @UF doi.org/10.1038/s44320-024-0…
Excited to share our latest research on how the response to IFNs in single epithelial cells is shaped by the population context and the IFN receptor localization. A huge thanks to all collaborators! @BoulantLab @Megan_Stanifer @ZinaUckeley @Yagmur__Keser embopress.org/doi/full/10.10…

2023 has been though with mainly rejections (papers, grants, awards) but these bunch of excited little scientists keeps me going. We submitted two big stories (reviewers be nice please!). I hope 2024 will be brighter
