“Generation Steel, an Australian company formerly known as Green Steel WA, intends to invest $850 million to build an electric arc furnace (EAF) mill at Collie, a town that is transitioning away from coal to new green industries in south-west of Western Australia.
“It will recycle Australian scrap steel into reinforcing bar, wire rod and merchant bar for construction, and will be the first steel mill to be built in W.A., and the first new steel mill built anywhere in Australia in more than 35 years.”

John Menadue: “Bob Brown cut through in broadening the Green appeal in opposition to Australia’s close military relationship with the United States and bringing peace and disarmament to the Greens’ agenda.”
Noting all of Bob’s continuing extraordinary achievements it was via the Nuclear Disarmament Party, Jo Vallentine (the first-ever Greens’ Senator) and Senate colleagues from WA, Christabelle Chamarette and Dee Margetts who did most to advance Peace and Disarmament as one of The Greens Four Pillars. They along with Bob where the only Greens Senators prior to 2002.

I was wondering if #Inisders this morning would get beyond blaming just pollies and "social" media for all that's wrong with public discourse in Oz. Finally, Mark Kenny pointed to the strong podium position of the fight-gaming/cheer-squadding MSM as well 🩷
Richard Denniss: ““Unlike any technology we’ve ever dealt with, the business model of AI is to generate mass unemployment. That is not an unintended consequence; it is the business model.”

I SRSLY can't figure out whether this mob are funny or mad.
It's much easier to categorise the people who are drawn into comment on their Xs

Three months’ before our respective 2025 national elections, polls showed the Canadian Liberals heading for a monumental shellacking and a Trumpesque Dutton a real chance to become PM.
Then came the reality of a Trump presidency, rather than just some bizarre doctrinising.
In a weird sense, I’m inclined to thank Trump for Australia not facing the absolute worst of possible apocalypses.
What now?
With 27 days until pre-poll opens in Victoria, I still think it possible that cleavers to Trump could lose 1-2% and that could be very significant.
Unless Elbow plays sill buggers with the date (and who knows?) the next Federal Election should be ca 18 months away and it wouldn’t surprise me if that factor significantly impacted the outcome.

“The ATO corporate tax transparency data for Australia’s largest corporations has just been released for the FY 2024-25 financial year. It includes payments from the Petroleum Resource Rent Tax (PRRT), and this year is the first to show the impact of the Labor government’s weak effort to reform the PRRT by capping the use of PRRT deductions at 90% of the value of production.
“In other words, 90% of the value of offshore gas production still pays zero PRRT, and the flawed PRRT is applied to only 10% of production.”

“Phil Haines, the husband of Helen Haines, says the independent MP has now lost both of her legs after the alleged attack on Monday.
“He said surgeons amputated her left leg on Monday and were hoping to save the right leg but could not.
“The good news in all this is Helen is alive and she’s stable. That is the most important thing for our family. And I think when we reflect and talk about and think about Helen, the two most important parts of Helen for us as a family are her heart and her mind.
“Her heart is huge. She is a very compassionate, caring, loving person. Incredibly supportive of all around her, her family, her community, anybody she comes across. And her mind. She has the sharpest intellect.”

What "far left terror attack"? 😡
BREAKING: Here's the metadata for the dirt sheet Albanese shopped around against Australian MP Helen Haines in the weeks leading up to the far-left terror attack on her life.
Metadata says it was written in Word on an Australian Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet (PM&C) system by the account "Lloyd, Joshua".
Joshua Lloyd is Deputy Director of Communications to the Prime Minister of Australia.
Great to know Josh spent 2 hours working on the document. Great use of my taxpayer money you bunch of fucking clowns. Thanks for toning down the temperature and uplifting the civility of our national body politic @AlboMP

“Australia and New Zealand have been ranked among the two fastest growing electric vehicle markets in the world since the start of the Iran war in late February triggered a fossil fuel supply crisis that is still being felt across the globe.
“The European energy and climate think tank Ember this week published a new analysis that shows that in the six months since the Hormuz energy crisis erupted, electric car fleets in oil-importing countries are estimated to have displaced 200 million barrels of crude oil, with a value of $US20 billion ($A29 billion).”

“Madeleine King told press club emissions from NT fossil fuel basin ‘are accounted for and offset’ but research found 95% of emissions this decade would not have to be offset.
“King either “isn’t across her brief or she’s being intentionally misleading”.”
Lying?

Amy Remeikis: “Much like Scandinavian centre-left parties, Labor has shifted its policies to try to address the far right’s attacks, which only legitimises it. The US and Britain, which are further down this rabbit hole than we are, are starting to see a small amount of pushback from their (self-proclaimed) centre-left mainstream parties – Barack Obama has begun to embrace the Democratic Socialists of America, despite establishment Democrats’ continued attacks, campaigning with the renegade (at least to the establishment) candidates, and British Labour has flirted with the idea of fighting the right as hard as it fights the Greens (we are coming from a very low base here).”
