During the COVID-19 crisis, Americans were introduced to treatments that were rushed into practice under emergency authorizations. Among them was Remdesivir — a drug hailed in the early stages as a breakthrough. But time has brought with it hard truths, and with those truths come stories that demand to be heard. Let me share one of them with you. Her name was Lupe Espinoza. Lupe was not just a patient — she was a daughter, a mother, a sister, an aunt, a friend, and a beloved member of her community. She was admitted to Clovis Community Hospital in California in 2021, after contracting COVID-19. What followed was not healing, but 57 days of suffering that no human being should endure. The treatment protocol included Remdesivir. Her family fought for her (from outside a hospital window, since they were not allowed in) praying, pleading, and hoping. But as the days passed, the toll on her body grew extreme. The damage was so severe that Lupe began bleeding from her eyes. Her family witnessed her agony, powerless to intervene as the protocol continued. Despite their desperate calls for alternative treatment their requests were denied. Lupe passed away on September 28, 2021. Her death was not peaceful — it was marked by trauma and systemic failure. And tragically, her story is not unique. Mr. President, the American people deserve to know the truth. They deserve medical transparency, informed consent, and the right to question protocols that are not yielding life-saving results. They deserve to know why drugs like Remdesivir continue to be used as a first-line treatment in so many hospitals despite mounting concerns from medical professionals, whistleblowers, and grieving families. We are not here to create division — we are here to demand accountability. We are calling on you, President Trump, to use your voice and influence to: •Call for an immediate, independent investigation into the safety and efficacy of Remdesivir. •Encourage the removal of Remdesivir from standard hospital protocols until unbiased research can verify its safety. •Support legislation that restores medical freedom to patients and families — so no one is ever forced into a protocol against their will again. This is not a partisan issue. It is a human rights issue. It is about making sure no family has to endure what the Espinoza family did. It’s about ensuring that hospitals never become battlegrounds where patients fight for survival not just from illness, but from the very treatments meant to save them. Lupe’s story is heartbreaking, but her memory is powerful. Let us not allow her suffering to be in vain. Let us stand together — for truth, for justice, and for change. Thank you.
