Attacks on students in #Sulaimaniya is not shocking. In the past decade, Asayish forces of both major parties of @Kurdistan gov have made freedom of expression & assembly one of the most dangerous practices to take part in.A subject discussed only in whispers or cries of agony.

#IRAQ Appears to be measuring turnout as a percentage of those who registered to vote - not of the entire electorate. So, 40 percent of those registered. But 36 percent of the electorate. This could explain the unexpectedly high turnout figures - which are still a historic low

All eyes on turnout in Iraq’s parliamentary election. Almost all Iraqi leaders, have asked people to cast their votes but many young Iraqis told us they have little reason to do so. Some though said they will despite knowing that they have to choose between “ bad and worse”
