ALT In yet another attempt by this president to intimidate his political opponents, the Department of Homeland Security arrived at dawn to raid Congresswoman Ilhan Omar’s home. This is a blatant abuse of power and just another way President Trump has weaponized the institutions of the federal government to carry out his fascist agenda. CD5 DFL condemns this action and stands in full support behind our Congresswoman.
ALT It is no coincidence that this raid comes just three weeks before the critical midterm election. Trump is attempting to rile up his supporters ahead of November 3 and strike fear into our work to increase DFL turnout. He will not succeed. Early Voting is this Friday. Voting in this election is one important way we can stand up to this administration and hold them accountable for their targeted attack on Minnesota.
ALT Over the last week, the president was flippant about the possibility of Iran “taking out” California cities, greenlit a televised execution, and now is inciting violence against Minnesota’s Somali community. These desperate attempts by President Trump to escalate violence in our state and our nation is unacceptable and will not work.
ALT CD5 DFL stands proudly with our Somali community and condemns the hateful rhetoric and incitements of violence coming from Republican leadership. Our state is made better by the contributions of our diverse communities and culture of neighborliness.
ALT This administration tried to break our spirit and resolve during Operation Metro Surge, and it only did the opposite – we banded together, defended our neighbors, and stood firmly against a fascist operation. With just 24 days until the November 3 election, Trump is doing everything he can to distract and divide us.
ALT It will not work. We will continue to stand alongside our neighbors. We will continue to defend our communities from hate. We will show up with force at the polls and let this administration see that Minnesota cannot be bullied. We are stronger together, and we all do better when we all do better.
