We have lost a true legend. Sir Patrick Stewart has passed away at the age of 86, at his home in Los Angeles, surrounded by family and his beloved wife Sunny, following a brief and poignant journey with Alzheimer’s disease and Lewy body dementia. From the stages of the Royal Shakespeare Company to the bridge of the USS Enterprise and the halls of Xavier’s School, he brought unmatched dignity, intelligence, compassion, and that unforgettable voice to every role. As Captain Jean-Luc Picard, he defined a generation’s idea of leadership and hope. As Professor Charles Xavier, he gave us a moral center amid the chaos of mutants and heroes. Knighted for his contributions to drama, he remained a Yorkshireman at heart—principled, generous, and endlessly curious. “Like me, Jean-Luc has lived an unusual life that has taken him far beyond the bounds of normal human experience. But he is also someone who has remained true to his earthbound roots… In the end, he feels the call of home, as do I.” — from his memoir Making It So. Thank you, Sir Patrick, for the adventures, the wisdom, and the grace. Rest in peace, Captain. Make it so. 🖖
