Vote on evidence, not promises. Ask yourself the same question of a political party: What have you actually delivered on water, electrical power, roads, safety and security - is there proof? Untested claims should not decide your vote. #governance #leadership #SouthAfrica
As SA citizens prepare to vote, look beyond party promises. Are political parties disciplined, reliable, orderly, consistent and effective? Most importantly, are they delivering on their commitments? Policies matter. But evidence of service delivery matters more. #governance

The R2.4bn tariff bill South Africa could have prevented was trumped by local policies that many people in the country do not support. Policies -- and poor governance -- have consequences! The indirect costs will far exceed the R2.4bn tariff! #governance #leadership #AGOA
There is an account on IG that is fantastic at simplifying South African economics, history & politics. They published this graphic on the impact of AGOA & it's potential cancellation for South Africa. Below the graphic. Credit: PreambleHQ

Repeated talks yielded no shift on issues like BBBEE, EWC, crime and corruption. The 5 asks from U.S. are now off the table. SA's on the back foot with real pressure and no more wiggle room - market conditions will get far worse. Policies have consequences. #AGOA #governance
It is regrettable that South African policies led to the termination of AGOA for South Africa. This was a predictable and preventable outcome resulting from the rejection by South Africa's government of real concerns raised by the U.S. Government. I remain hopeful that we can find a path forward to address our larger bilateral concerns, but the South African government must understand the gravity of the situation. We know that if America succeeds, so too will South Africa. This is the partnership I will continue to pursue as expeditiously as possible. ustr.gov/about/policy-office…

Warning signs on SA's #AGOA eligibility date back to circa 2015. SA underwent an out-of-cycle review over trade barriers - past 'fixes' bought us time, but barriers such as corruption & foreign policy issues persisted through annual reviews. Years of clear signals were there!
Washington has pulled the plug. From 1 January 2027, South Africa is out of AGOA. On 2 Nov, President Trump notified Congress and Pretoria of his intent to terminate SA's AGOA benefits. USTR's stated reasons for SA: "barriers to U.S. trade and investment, corruption, and threats to U.S. national security and foreign policy interests." Read that list again. Trade barriers. Corruption. Foreign policy. Every item on it is a choice made in Pretoria, not in Washington. This didn't come out of nowhere. Talks have been running since 2025, and this government kept picking the same fights instead of fixing the problems. The cost lands on ordinary South Africans. AgriSA warns of pressure on packhouses, transport operators and farmworkers, and says the US took 28.85% of SA litchi exports last season. Ministers will keep their jobs. Packhouse workers might not. Why it matters: we are paying for foreign policy grandstanding with export jobs, and there are only weeks left to fix it before 1 January. #AGOA #SouthAfrica

“...Pres. Trump found that the SA government is engaging in practices that are inconsistent with AGOA’s eligibility criteria.” These practices include, but are not limited to, barriers that undermine American trade and investment. #AGOA #governance newsday.co.za/business/33203…

Good #governance in SA has failed. In plain & simple terms: 1.This is a leadership issue, in fact it's a crisis of poor leadership 2.Ordinary SA citizens will bear the full brunt 3.Those in protected leadership positions will continue life, affected far less than the masses – at Somerset West, South Africa
This is the letter US President Donald Trump sent to President Cyril Ramaphosa announcing the termination of South Africa’s AGOA eligibility. Here's the crux: "I am taking this step because I have determined that the Government of South Africa has not established, or is not making continual progress toward establishing, a system to combat corruption and bribery or the elimination of barriers to United States trade and investment, as required by section 104 of AGOA. In addition, certain actions by the Government of South Africa on matters of international security and its relations and cooperation with governments of concern to the United States risk undermining United States national security and foreign policy."

AfriForum holds @PresidencyZA @CyrilRamaphosa and other ANC leaders in government directly responsible for South Africa’s removal from AGOA and the job losses that will result. According to @afriforum, President Ramaphosa and his government’s foreign policy, as well as his announcement on 23 January 2025 that he had signed the Expropriation Act into law, directly prompted President Donald Trump’s announcement just ten days later, on 2 February, that the US would take action against South Africa. AGOA sets explicit requirements for the protection of private property rights and stipulates that beneficiary countries may not undermine US national security or foreign policy interests. As early as April 2024, AfriForum sent a letter to President Ramaphosa warning him of the risks that the Expropriation Act, which allows for expropriation without compensation, posed to South Africa’s trade relations. Ramaphosa did not even respond to the letter, and the country is now reaping the bitter fruits of his and other ANC leaders’ reckless policies and actions. Over the past year, AfriForum, @solidariteit and the Solidarity Movement have put forward comprehensive proposals during discussions with the South African Presidency in an effort to resolve the dispute with the US. Solidarity also held extensive discussions with the US in an attempt to save AGOA. Unfortunately, the Presidency disregarded these efforts, and ordinary South Africans are now paying the price. Ramaphosa and his colleagues in the ANC leadership have placed their own ideology and party interests above the interests of ordinary South Africans. news24.com/business/economy/…

Consider if this is acceptable...consider the importance of good governance. If the governance of any organisation is not seen, managed, measured, independently assessed, audited and reported - it really not worth much. In fact, does it even exist? #governance @Newzroom405
[WATCH] Joburg Mayor Dada Morero says the city is gradually moving towards operating its own fleet of water tankers, to reduce reliance on contractors. He says 20 tankers procured in 2025 are already operational, while a further 16 are being rolled out in phases. #Newzroom405

Thousands of more jobs now on the line! CGF warned about this years ago, few people heeded the warnings and now it's here. The costs are high, and damages priceless! For as long as good #governance is not embraced from the top, expect epic socio-economic disaster ahead!
#SAoutOfAgoa #MembershipTerminated1Jan2027 #ANCFailedSA It is a total disaster that SA’s membership of Agoa will be terminated on 1 Jan 2027. The VF Plus did our outmost to save our membership but the incompetence of those in charge of our International Relations prevailed @maroelamedia @Netwerk24 @iol

Another PIC/GEPF investment failure. Concor has gone into business rescue after receiving R1.8 billion in investment funding from the GEPF. It's starting to look like the state has been using these funds to artificially create black owned consortiums and keep companies (and jobs) that would otherwise be dead in the water alive. Unfortunately, this strategy is collapsing. Most likely because of the insistence that these companies not be run by the most capable but by the most politically expedient skin colour. Which begs the question - how much of the paper value of the PIC and GEPF translates into real value? businesstech.co.za/news/busi…

It's the same story... #Governance that is kept under dark covers, and reports that are altered to suit a particular narrative, are carefully masked to present a different picture. Allowing this to occur, even sporadically, will cause great damage, and failure!
R692.6 million of your pension money. One construction company. Now in business rescue. In 2017 the PIC backed a BEE consortium that bought Murray & Roberts' construction arm, renamed Concor. The PIC's own list of distressed investments shows R692.6m put into Concor in May 2017 and August 2019, marked "Turnaround". It didn't turn around. In May 2024, the GEPF bought out the private shareholders in what the Competition Tribunal called a rescue deal "to avoid its possible liquidation". That left government workers' pensions (81.25%) and the UIF (18.75%) owning the whole company. On 6 October 2026, Concor went into business rescue anyway. So the private partners were bought out, and public servants and the unemployment fund were left holding it. Why it matters: the PIC invests government workers' retirement savings. Who signed off on this, and how much is lost? The GEPF members deserve an answer. #PIC #GEPF #Concor

This reprehensible parliamentarian, @Mngxitama2, should know that @afriforum’s legal team is coming for him in a big way. I have just instructed our legal team to determine the most appropriate legal course of action and proceed accordingly. These hateful statements about an Afrikaner farmer who was brutally tortured are no political game. We are prepared to commit every resource necessary to ensure that he is brought to book.

This level of leadership and thinking won't repair failed governance in South Africa. As lamented by Justice Madlanga a few days ago, "drastic" intervention is required to bring the country to a level where real change occurs and to benefit the nation. #governance #corruption – at Somerset West, South Africa
Can someone please translate for me. I do not speak moron.

Good governance underpins social order... Has good governance has lost its way in South Africa? #governance #leadership – at Somerset West, South Africa
When you listen to Professor Teffo you would realise how deep in sh*t the ANC put us. It is clear most of this political parties ate the wrong money. He raised something very important. Something that I once asked myself and I am sure most of you also did ask yourselves. Remember the 30th June deadline? Some of the foreigners from most of the countries left except Somalians, Bangladeshians, Ethiopians. It makes sense that they are funding some of this political parties and that is why they are protecting and speaking for them. Shame on this political parties for sacrificing their people for their own selfish reasons. I wish South Africans can wake up.

The provisions of citizen rights contained in the SA Constitution provide false comfort if they aren't upheld, moreover a lived reality. Many now see this, including the failure of the government to ensure proper consequences against those who violate these rights! #governance – at Somerset West, South Africa
🇿🇦Lex Libertas has called on President Cyril Ramaphosa to publicly condemn the brutal attack on North West farmer Donovan Marx and to engage civil society on combating farm attacks. In the letter, Lex Libertas points out that President Ramaphosa has previously condemned particularly brutal incidents of violent crime, including the recent killings of women in Ekurhuleni and calls on him to respond similarly to the attack on Marx. ‘The President has spoken out against other incidents of brutal violence. We believe the victims of farm attacks deserve the same recognition & commitment to justice’ Ernst Roets, Executive Director Lex Libertas. South Africa is likely to face punitive measures through a reduction in the number of products eligible for duty-free access under AGOA. I believe strongly in good governance and in the principle that public resources should be used for the purposes for which they were intended. However, that does not appear to be what the United States is currently demanding of South Africa - perhaps because the country is not, at this moment, viewed as a model of sound governance. This distinction is precisely why I took issue with your statement.
