FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, I’M BEGGING YOU! DON’T GO TO CHINA!!! China has just made it legal to kidnap foreigners in China if they obey US law. New regulations could put foreign companies in a legal Catch-22: investigate forced labor in Chinese supply chains and risk violating Chinese law, or follow Chinese rules and risk breaking Western law. And with China expanding its power to stop people from leaving the country, even a business trip could turn into an unwanted extended stay.

At 13 Judy Garland signed with MGM, and the studio decided she was too fat, put her on chicken soup, black coffee and cigarettes, and handed her pills to keep her going and more pills to knock her out, and by the time she finished The Wizard of Oz she was hooked on both. She had been on stage since she was two, as Frances Gumm, the youngest of the Gumm Sisters. Her mother, Ethel, managed her, and according to her biographer first gave her pills, for energy and for sleep, before she was ten. Judy later called her mother the real Wicked Witch of the West. MGM signed her in 1935. Louis B. Mayer and the studio bosses reportedly called her a fat little pig with pigtails. Mayer insisted on the diet himself: chicken soup, black coffee and cigarettes, with pills to take her appetite away. The studio supplied the pep pills, and when they left her too wired to sleep after the long days on set, it supplied sleeping pills for that. She and Mickey Rooney, she said later, were worked "days and nights on end", once for 72 hours straight, and kept going on pills. She was 16 when filming began on The Wizard of Oz, and by the time it ended she was addicted to amphetamines and barbiturates. The girl in the gingham dress singing about somewhere over the rainbow was being starved by the studio and dosed by it. The rest of her life was pills, husbands, comebacks and collapses. "At times," she said, "I have been pretty much of a walking advertisement for sleeping pills." She died in London on 22 June 1969, aged 47, of an accidental overdose of barbiturates. At MGM a growing girl's hunger was treated as the problem, and the studio had a chemical for it. Hollywood has never stopped thinking that way. It has only changed the delivery, from a bottle of pills to a weekly injection.

Thomas Sowell explains a hard truth about bad policies: good intentions don’t erase bad consequences. When governments make the wrong decisions, ordinary people often end up paying the price.

🇨🇦 THEY STOOD ON GUARD 🇨🇦 OCTOBER 27, 1918 — THE EXTRAORDINARY COURAGE OF WILLIAM GEORGE BARKER 108 YEARS AGO TODAY Just 15 days before the end of the First World War, a Canadian flying ace from Manitoba fought one of the most remarkable aerial battles in military history. His name was Major William George “Billy” Barker. Born near Dauphin, Manitoba, in 1894, Barker enlisted in the Canadian Expeditionary Force in 1914 before transferring to the Royal Flying Corps in 1916. He would become one of Canada’s greatest fighter pilots. On the morning of October 27, 1918, Barker was flying a Sopwith Snipe fighter aircraft over the Forêt de Mormal in France when he spotted and attacked a German reconnaissance aircraft. After destroying it, he suddenly found himself under attack by German Fokker fighters. What followed was an extraordinary fight for survival. Barker was shot in his right thigh, then wounded again in his left leg. Surrounded by enemy aircraft, he continued fighting despite his injuries. He lost consciousness, and his aircraft plunged out of control. Somehow, he regained consciousness, recovered his aircraft and resumed fighting. Then another bullet shattered his left elbow. He lost consciousness a second time. Yet Barker recovered once again, fought his way through the attacking aircraft and eventually reached Allied lines, where he crash-landed his badly damaged fighter. Despite his terrible wounds, he survived. During the engagement, Barker was officially credited with destroying four enemy aircraft, bringing his wartime total to 50 victories. For his extraordinary courage, he was awarded the Victoria Cross, the highest decoration for valour in the face of the enemy. Barker became one of the most highly decorated servicemen in Canadian history. Tragically, he died in an aviation accident near Ottawa on March 12, 1930, at just 35 years old. Today, we remember a remarkable Canadian whose courage in the skies over France remains an enduring part of our military history. Major William George Barker, VC, DSO & Bar, MC & Two Bars (1894–1930). 🇨🇦 We will remember him. #TheyStoodOnGuard #LestWeForget #WW1

Without government, who would raid your home because you complained to an airline that they were flying to low over your property?
The FBI raided the home of a homesteading disabled veteran in Arizona. Why? Because he complained to United Airlines about flight school doing drills very low, directly above his home.

Want to know the difference between socialism and capitalism? Part II Look at Venezuela and Chile. In 1977, Venezuela was twice as rich as Chile. It sits on the most oil on Earth. Chile chose free markets. Venezuela chose socialism. Today: - Chile is 4x richer per person. - Minimum wage: Chile $545 a month. Venezuela 15 cents. - Inflation: Chile 3.5%. Venezuela 475%. - Chileans live 8 years longer. - Freedom score: Chile 95. Venezuela 13. - Nearly 8 million Venezuelans have fled. Over 700,000 went to Chile. The country with the most oil on the planet can't keep the lights on. Same continent. Same language. Different system. Watch the line. If you're upset that America removed Maduro, ask yourself what side you're really on.
Want to know the difference between communism and capitalism? You don't need a history book. Look no further than the Korean Peninsula. In 1953 the Korean War came to ceasefire and one country became two. Same people. Same language. Same history. Same starting line. The North chose communism. The South chose capitalism. Here is the scorecard 72 years later. ECONOMY - South Korea: 14th largest economy in the world. - North Korea: 150th. - Per person, South Korea ranks 37th. North Korea ranks 214th. - In 2025 South Korea exported $709.7 billion in goods. A record. - North Korea's total trade with China, its biggest partner, was $2.7 billion. - South Korea exports that much in less than a day and a half. HEALTH - South Korea: #5 in the world for life expectancy. - North Korea: #136. - Be born north of the line and you lose 10 years of life. - A North Korean child is 6 times more likely to die before age 5. FOOD - The UN says about 46% of North Koreans are undernourished. - That is nearly 12 million people. TECH - South Korea: #4 most innovative country on Earth. - Two South Korean companies make 70% of the world's memory chips. - South Korea sold $173 billion in chips last year alone. - 97% of South Koreans are online. - In North Korea, fewer than 10,000 people can reach the internet. That is less than 0.1% of the country. LIGHTS - Look at the peninsula from space at night. - South Korea glows. - North Korea is almost completely dark. Even the capital is a dim dot. FREEDOM - Freedom House scores South Korea 83 out of 100. - North Korea scores 3. One of the lowest on Earth. EXPORTS - South Korea gives the world Samsung, Hyundai and Blackpink. - North Korea gives the world rockets… crappy ones. Same people. Same land. Different system. Watch the line.

Socialist theory promises to destroy the ruling class. In reality, it simply replaces business owners who compete for your dollar with unaccountable party commissars who rule your life with a gun. You don't eliminate the hierarchy, you just make it armed, ruthless, and impossible to escape.
