After 40 years of extraordinary service to the @CSFDPIO, Fire Chief Randy Royal has announced he will retire on March 9, 2027. He has led with courage, humility, and a deep commitment to mission first, people always. His impact will be felt for generations. From advancing emergency medical care to leading through some of our community’s most difficult moments, to embracing innovation that has made our city safer, Randy has dedicated his career to protecting others and preparing CSFD for the future. I have had the privilege of knowing Randy not only as an exceptional Fire Chief, but also as a friend and a man of deep character, faith, humility, and genuine care for others. I am deeply grateful for his leadership, his friendship, and four decades of unwavering service to Colorado Springs. We have plenty of time between now and March to celebrate his remarkable career. For today, please join me in simply saying: Thank you, Chief Royal.

S.A.R.A.H., our AI-powered assistant, now helps non-emergency callers (719-444-7000) get information and reach the right resources faster. This allows trained professional staff to focus more on 911 emergencies. To learn more, visit: Communications Center Tech | City of Colorado Springs

Colorado Springs, many of you are seeing and smelling the smoke from the Aspen Acres Fire burning to our south. It is a reminder of our own experience with wildfire, and brings back some of our darkest days. These smoky skies are an important reminder. Wildfire is part of life in Colorado Springs. It is not a matter of if, but when. And the best thing we can do is prepare before an emergency reaches our doorstep. Our City continues to invest in wildfire mitigation, planning, training, and coordination with our local, regional, state, and federal partners. And as part of that commitment to partnership, @CSFDPIO has sent 13 firefighters to the Aspen Acres Fire and three firefighters to the Ferris Fire in Durango as part of our mutual aid response. But community preparedness matters just as much. I encourage every household to remember Ready, Set, Go. 🟢 Ready: Create defensible space around your home, know your wildfire risk, and sign up for emergency alerts at PeakAlerts.org. 🟡 Set: Pack or refresh your go-bag, make a family evacuation plan, and be ready to leave if conditions change. 🔴 Go: If an evacuation is ordered, leave immediately. Every second matters, and leaving early helps keep you, your family, and our first responders safe. Colorado Springs has faced devastating wildfires before. Those experiences have taught us that preparedness saves lives. Let's use today's smoky skies as a reminder to prepare. Not out of fear, but out of responsibility to ourselves, our families, and our neighbors. Get Ready at: ColoradoSprings.gov/ReadySet…

Beginning today, Wednesday, June 10th, 2026, at 9 AM, the Colorado Springs Public Safety Communications Center will conduct a 24-hour test of a new assistive AI agent on the *NON-EMERGENCY phone line (719-444-7000) until 9 AM on Thursday, June 11, 2026. This AI agent (SARAH) is designed to support call handling and service efficiency on our non-emergency line, to improve the speed at which 911 calls are answered by our emergency call takers. Throughout the testing period, all activity on the non-emergency line will be closely monitored by trained communications department personnel. This test will *NOT* impact 911 services, which will continue to operate as normal.
