I’m afraid the current @pnefc squad is lacking both leaders and match winners on the pitch - and plays with little shape or fluency. Barely mounted an attack from open play today - going to be a tough old season on this evidence
Funny how all these great defenders of academic free speech have gone to ground when it comes on the state refusing entry to Andreas Malm
Outrageously stupid decision

Terrific response by Cardinal Jean-Paul Vesco to @BishopBarron disgraceful attack on his integrity. Vesco speaks from the Church, Barron for himself.
The @BishopBarron post misrepresenting the views of Cardinal Jean-Paul Vesco of Algeria is not only uncharitable but also further evidence of his US parochialism, an inability to appreciate other contexts in which the Church operates

Excellent clarification and I hope @bishopbarron will apologize for the way he portrayed the cardinal on social media.
The journalists who interviewed Cardinal Vesco say @BishopBarron left out important context and attributed words to the cardinal that he never said. We’ve translated @cathobel’s response into English.

Thanks to @AndyMcDonaldMP for raising insourcing at Transport Questions and it was good to hear Transport Secretary @Heidi_Labour confirm that she will be looking at insourcing where it can drive better outcomes for passengers and value for money.

Being a vile human being on this site is hardly unusual, but for a Catholic bishop to show such lack of judgment is really extraordinary. Let him spend a week in Algeria before he talks trash - or just a week with real people. What a disgrace.
Well, another Cardinal has come out with a, shall we say, puzzling take on evangelization.
A few years ago, Cardinal Américo Aguiar, at the time auxiliary bishop of Lisbon, said that he and the other organizers of World Youth Day in his hometown had no interest in converting anyone to Christ.
Now Cardinal Jean-Paul Vesco of Algeria has opined that “the Church is not there to convert” and “Christians should approach other religions through fraternity rather than seeking conversions.”
Excuse me, but…what?
Last time I checked, the Founder said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.” Sure sounds like conversion to me.
When St. Paul came to Corinth or Athens or Thessalonica, his purpose was not to listen or to form a discussion group but rather to declare an unnerving message: the euangelion (glad tidings) that Jesus Christ is risen from the dead.
So impassioned is he for this work that he says, “I have become all things to all people, that I might by all means save some. I do it all for the sake of the gospel” (1 Cor. 9:22); and “If I proclaim the gospel, this gives me no ground for boasting, for an obligation is laid on me, and woe to me if I do not proclaim the gospel” (1 Cor. 9:16)!
Moreover, the entire thrust of the Second Vatican Council was toward bringing the Light of Christ to the peoples of the world (Lumen Gentium). And this missionary élan has given rise in the last few decades to the idea of a “new evangelization,” which is to say, a fresh declaration of the Lordship of Christ.
Quite obviously, no one thinks that this work of evangelization should be done in a brow-beating, overbearing, or disrespectful manner (proselytization), but for God’s sake, let’s not throw the baby out with the bathwater.
If I really thought that the Church does not exist to bring people to Christ, then I would resign and get an honest job.
Replying to @NiwaLimbu1988
In the Cardinal's defense, he is not a Cardinal in France, US, etc. He is the Cardinal of Algiers, 98% Muslim & literally in enemy territory doing God's work. He is not going to be agressively proselyting there, existing there is a win. I think he deserves a little bit of grace.

Did the Bishop Barron, in his humility, even consider this reality before attacking the Cardinal of Algiers?

I’ve written to @premierleague Chief Executive Richard Masters demanding action on poverty chanting following Everton’s game against Chelsea.
Everton & Liverpool supporters have endured this class prejudice for years. Mocking families who cannot afford to put food on the table is shameful.
Through Fans Supporting Foodbanks, supporters stand together to feed our communities. The Premier League must show the same solidarity & leadership.
Hunger doesn’t wear colours. It’s time our game acted like it.

I welcome the historic commitment in the Budget to end the injustices suffered by miners & their families. I urge the Chancellor to approve the immediate release of the remaining £1.2bn from the MPS reserves so that mining communities know this Labour Government is on their side.

The Chancellor described today’s budget as a “breathing space” budget. The individual measures to help on the cost of living crisis on energy, housing and food are very welcome but the important issue now is how the time secured as a breathing space is used to address the pressures people are under. The Spending Review next year is the opportunity to develop a radical agenda to deliver the investment needed in our economy and public services and to secure a tax system that redistributes wealth at scale to overcome the levels of inequality and poverty in our society.

Our report sets out a roadmap to end food poverty by 2035. The Government must act & put the Right to Food into law.
Please ask your MP to sign the motion & stand with the communities fighting to end hunger.
