Me, on the absurdity of our approach to indoor air quality standards v. outdoor air quality (you will be shocked by what I share, and you will agree it's absurd.) Thanks to @EricTopol for having me on. Full links to our 60-minute interview in his bio.

Sound Smarter on the Jobsite: "Send me the CAD files."
Haven't done one of these in a while!
As yesterday's lively discussion reminds us, many people really don't understand this issue, and get quite spicy about it.
Why is this such a touchy topic?!
Let's get into it:

Hands-down, the best part about this heat pump hot water heater is that when it is hot and humid outside (like today), it air conditions and dehumidifies my garage workshop.

Like many, we were surprised to learn that, as early as the 19th century, public health specialists and engineers knew precisely how to create the ideal conditions for limiting airborne transmission and promoting learning. Here are some of the pioneers of indoor air quality. 🔽

While we're talking about numbers...great progress in lowering the outdoor air pollution limit for PM2.5 from 12 ug/m3 to 9 ug/m3. Do you know what the legally enforceable limit is for *indoor* particles? Have a listen.

Glad to share our recently published study in ES&T Air evaluating 13 different air cleaners for PM and VOC removal under wildfire smoke conditions. We evaluated 13 different commercial and DIY air cleaners in a test chamber w/ pine needle wildfire smoke challenge

Oh my god, I am literally in tears right now. Biden is pausing approvals and directing the DOE to expand its evaluation of new liquid methane gas terminals to consider their impact on #ClimateChange. Thank god, thank god.

FOG TEST!!
Got this fog machine for $18 on Black Friday. You can see how the Fandelier sucks up the aerosols and clears the air very quickly; any of these fog pulses would leave the room foggy a long time without the filters. Song: M83-Before the Dawn Heals Us

I've been living in the Land of Heat (aka Texas) so long now that I forgot all about this passage in my book. 🙂 Thanks Ben for bringing it to light.
Thought this was a smart point, from @jeffgoodell's THE HEAT WILL KILL YOU FIRST: that air-conditioning is a "technology of forgetting" that separates us from our surroundings/place. Kinda like the car!

Winnowing is a technique that involves using air currents to separate heavier particles (seeds or grains) from lighter ones (chaff, husks, debris).

You probably know carbon monoxide poisoning can be deadly. But DYK that chronic, lower level exposures - which won’t be caught by standard CO detectors - can result in serious health impacts? 😶🌫

Kudos to @nytimes and @apoorva_nyc and
@EmilyAnthes for recognizing this is an historic moment when it comes to indoor air quality and healthy buildings. EXCELLENT four-part series.

Great short article on switching from #Oil heat to a #heatpump looking at #AtlanticCanada where up to 40% of homes heat with oil. Gives a good overview of the issue and if you are curious looks at the challenges and opportunity. bluehouseenergy.com/blogs/bh…
I wrote a thing about oil heat and free heat pumps and Atlantic Canada and low-income households and risks and costs and benefits.
