I’m feeling slightly overwhelmed by peer review requests. Just finished #20 of the year.
I know the answer is to decline more requests. But it’s hard when the requests are for asexualities research.
I want to support that work, but I also want to support my own wellbeing.
Can bisexual people use the split attraction model?
I think the answer is yes—and that the question reveals something interesting about how we think about attraction.
Asexuality didn’t invent complicated attraction. It helped make the complexity harder to ignore.
The bigger question is why we expect sexuality, romance, desire, gender, and relationships to all line up neatly in the first place.
I wrote about why I think the split attraction model should be available to everyone—even if not everyone finds it useful.

Devastating to watch my university prepare to destroy an important center for queer/trans students and faculty… all to save a fraction of an administrator’s salary.
My research on gender detachment and compulsory gender just won another award from the American Sociological Association!
It’s the third ASA award this line of work has received.
I’m honored and excited to see research on asexuality get such an enthusiastic reception.
My article on gender detachment is published in @SociusJournal!
We often assume that everyone has a gender.
But some people feel detached from gender.
Based on 30 interviews with asexual individuals, I argue that gender categorization is compulsory--but it doesn't need to be.

Every bullet fired, every bomb dropped puts more $$ in someone’s pocket.
Worth remembering as the Trump admin seems to be gearing up for an attack on Iran.
War has a profit incentive for a small group of very wealthy people.
Nicki Minaj has a track record of defending sexual abusers and pedophiles, so her support of Trump is on brand.

Having just written a book about this and talked to a LOT of Democratic officials, consultants, and pundits, I can assure you that neither Cory Booker nor the police training and surveillance industry he’s advertising think that more money for ICE “training” and tech would remotely address any problem that any person of good will has with what ICE is doing. What you are seeing here from Booker is the most craven and cynical counterinsurgency designed to preserve the key structures while tricking low information liberals into thinking people in power care and are “doing something.”
Today I’m taking action to bring accountability to federal law enforcement like ICE. New legislation I’m announcing will require ICE to adopt rigorous training hiring standards, and for their agents to wear body cameras. These are best practices used by aw enforcement agencies use across our country. We need to bring transparency and accountability to ICE in order to make Americans safer.
JK Rowling is an anti-queer gender fascist.
So when you make Harry Potter references without even a nod to her oppressive views, you look sus.
