Lmao, it’s sad that many of you don’t understand that Nigeria is functionally a dictatorship. Some of you lack the discernment to recognise that this has been the reality for decades. A Nigerian president or his family members can have you disappeared and face virtually no consequences. This can happen to over 90% of Nigerians. Excluding some members of the elite or famous people, whom a president can also target, but it would at least generate some noise. International media might not even bother reporting it. Maybe you’re probably not important enough to even get on a president’s radar. A state governor or lower-ranking government official could have you disappeared, and nothing would happen. They could throw you in prison for years without trial. Some powerful folks in Abuja can make you suffer for fun and use the state machinery to do it. Lmao, even that is taking it a step further. An ordinary Nigerian big man can have someone shot, make people disappear, and still get away with it. The problem is that there are so many of us that you don’t necessarily feel the machinery of state repression bearing down on you. But all it takes is a serious encounter with the Nigerian justice system, particularly one involving criminal allegations, for you to understand just how little protection an ordinary Nigerian actually has. We live in a functional dictatorship dressed up in democratic clothing. Them go just waste you, and nobody internationally will make much of a fuss because, frankly, the world doesn’t seem to care much about what happens to Africans.
If they like they can live to a hundred years of age, I will never trade Nigeria for hell.

Have you ever wondered why you have to buy data on your home router and also buy a mobile data for when you are not at home? Let me explain it better. You pay for data on your home router. You step out of the house and it is useless to you. So you buy a second bundle for your phone. Same network. Same towers. Same company collecting your money twice. So, you have two separate data bundles with expiry dates on them but you can only use one at a time. If you are at home or office, the mobile data will be wasting away. If you are away from the office and home, the router bundle with an expiry date on it will be wasting away. If you are only at home at night, when you do the maths, you realize that you only get to use the bundle 15 days in a month but you think you are enjoying unlimited one month broadband data. Have you ever wondered why, in 2026, it has to be this way? It does not. It is a business decision, not a technical limitation. Let’s look at what operators did over a decade ago in other countries. PHILIPPINES (2016): PLDT launched a home broadband plan with 50GB a month, of which 6GB could be shared with up to four mobile lines and used outside the home. One subscription. One bill. They called it the country's first plan that cuts across home and mobile broadband. In simple terms. PLDT made it possible for people to use the same data bundle they have at home on their mobile devices even when they are not at home. CZECH REPUBLIC (2014): T-Mobile launched "Shared Internet" in February 2014. One data allowance shared between a customer's phone and a second device, with a separate data SIM for 99 Czech koruna a month, no new contract, same speed as the main SIM. If the shared data ran out, you topped up through the main SIM. By August 2014 they went further: up to five family members could share one data allowance, with up to five extra data SIMs for tablets and laptops on top. In USA, UK, Australia, etc. the madness we allow here do not exist. AT&T launched it Mobile Share in the United States in 2012. You pick one monthly broadband data allowance and share it across 10 devices regardless of where you are in the country. O2 launched its Sharer Plan and Family Sharer Plan in 2014 in UK. Optus did the same in AUSTRALIA. These are all operators in serious countries making efforts to be fair to their customers and this has been on since 12 to 14 years ago. So the technology exists. The billing systems exist. Customers elsewhere have been using it. Why then are Nigerians quiet about it? For the same reason nobody questioned data expiry for years. People believe it cannot work any other way. We were told data must expire, so we accepted it. We were told home data stays at home, so we accepted that too. Nobody asked the company to explain why, so the answer became "that is just how it works." It is not how it works. It is how it is sold. Every unquestioned rule you live with is a rule someone chose. Start asking why. KAA #kaa_truths

Efetobore Timilehin Tega-Taire, a 21-year-old final-year anthropology student at the University of Ibadan (UI), can no longer see with either eye, and his father is struggling to raise N15.92 million for surgeries that doctors say could restore his sight. Timilehin, who was preparing for his final examinations and sign-out ceremony in November, has had problems with his eyesight for about five years. However, his condition recently worsened, leading to further medical interventions at the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan. Lucky Tega-Taire, his father who lives in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State, told FIJ that the family had been referred to Skipper Eye-Q Super Specialty Eye Hospitals in Victoria Island, Lagos, after UCH said it lacked the necessary equipment to treat him. According to Tega-Taire, the hospital has estimated the cost of surgery at N7.96 million per eye, leaving the family with a total bill of N15.92 million for both eyes. He said the family had raised only N1.5 million and was appealing to the public for help.

Slightly related but 22 years ago the Indian Ocean tsunami killed over 200K people, some survivors Sri Lanka were saved cos they observed their animals closely: -Elephants became agitated, trumpeting & started marching towards higher ground. -Dogs refused to go outside. -Birds began flying inland, away from sea, towards higher ground. All these happened an hour or two before the tsunami struck. Morale of Story: Observation no be crime.
One of the perks of being jobless is it makes you very observant. The dogs on my street are in a gang and i recently noticed they've ostracized one. i suspect it's because he tried to leave so he has been home more often now. i should learn dog coz this gist looks interesting

If you want to understand why Africa is like this, just look at most of our male leaders. This is why colonizers had to kill matriarchy in Africa. Because women leaders were more competent. They were accountable. You couldn't just bribe them to sell the whole village. So what did colonizers do? They replaced them with greedy, corrupt men. Men they could control. And that system never left. Look at the King of Eswatini. His people don't have roads. They don't have hospitals. 70% of the country lives in poverty. Eswatini has the highest HIV rate on earth and people are dying of hunger. And what is the King doing? The man has 15 wives. He spent $24.4 million to buy 19 Rolls-Royces for them. 19! Delivered in trucks like he was sharing rice. In a country where people can't afford bread. And that was not even enough. That same year, he bought 79 BMWs. Then weeks later, another 120 BMWs. Meanwhile he already had 20 Mercedes Maybachs and a private jet he bought for himself for his 50th birthday. This is the mentality. Let the people suffer, let them die of AIDS and poverty, as long as the wives have Rolls-Royces. This is the African male leadership we inherited. And until we change it, nothing will change.

So Peter Obi became president after a colossal power tussle that had people in the streets, which intimately got BAT exiled to France. US tried to get involved but PO wasn't having it. His first order of action was commission a rapid construction project for new prisons. He then had the current prisoners moved to the new buildings, combed the entire government for criminals, charged them to court and had them sent to the old prisons because they didn't deserve to be in the new ones 😭
This dream I had last night 😭

What is happening to Dr. Ose on the TL now is what happens to you when you try to combine building a platform with relating with people on the same platform. One thing I have come to realise about medical influencers is that the most successful ones on this app, and even beyond it, such as Aproko Doctor and Dr. Sina, do not immerse themselves in the medical cliques and conversations that dominate Med Twitter. You rarely find them participating in the agendas and controversies constantly trending among medical students and doctors. When you are trying to build a platform, you have to choose what you want from the app. Do you want to build a following, or do you want to build relationships? These are two different objectives, and trying to combine them can sometimes work against you. This is one lesson I learned rather late. If your primary objective is to grow an audience, standalone posts will often do more for you. You need to limit how much you involve yourself in the affairs of the medical community on the TL. You do not have to follow everyone who follows you, engage with every conversation or take a position on every issue. I remember when Dr. Ose first began gaining prominence on this platform. I followed him then, and I liked his content. I like him. However, my advice to him is this: as a consultant gynaecologist who has built a platform around pregnancy, women's health and medical advice, you need to understand the importance of separating your professional platform from the social politics of the medical community. Model yourself after Aproko Doctor. Position yourself as someone whose primary concern is providing useful information to the general public. Your audience should be the wider population of people who need the information you provide, not necessarily the medical clique on Twitter. Stay away from social issues and the controversies constantly trending among Nigerian doctors, including issues surrounding doctors' welfare. Focus on creating content for the people you are trying to reach. I saw the arguments that went on throughout yesterday concerning the statement that pregnancy is not a death sentence. Some people were arguing that pregnancy is not a death sentence, while others were insisting that pregnancy can be one. The truth is that everybody knows pregnancy is not automatically a death sentence. Those arguing that it can be a death sentence are trying to communicate the actual gravity of pregnancy and what it means to carry a pregnancy and bring another human being into the world. That is a legitimate concern. Those arguing that it is not a death sentence risk trivialising the seriousness of the experience. But one thing you must understand about Twitter is that this is an app that runs on agendas and biases. It runs on sentiments and the selective presentation of truth to sustain particular positions. Someone can make a particular argument today and express the exact opposite opinion tomorrow, depending on how they feel or whatever agenda they are supporting. This is something you begin to understand the longer you remain on this particular street. An audience you have spent years building, numbering in the thousands, should not be broken into pieces because of a few squabbles on the TL. Yet, that is what I have watched happen in this situation. The disagreement involved several doctors, most of whom were female doctors, and I saw Dr. Ose refunding money and getting caught up in the exchanges. I'm not going to say much about the actual professional argument. My advice is simply this: distance yourself from the medical cliques on this platform. Your medical peers are not necessarily going to help you build an audience, establish influence or make money from your online presence. Constantly involving yourself in their controversies may instead undermine the platform you have worked so hard to build. Focus on giving health advice. Stay away from online agendas and...
