On trauma weekends I cover gen surg trauma and ortho pagers. So, I just transferred a patient from myself, to myself, wrote a note providing recs to myself, and wrote another thanking myself for those recs

I will give this stupid fuck $10,000 if he can tell me what DNA ligation is and how it’s done. I didn’t pull a thousand plates out of the incubator in the morning only to find no colonies for this to be the moronic justification for the end of my research career.
This is insane… 🚨 RFK JR says Dr. Anthony Fauci funded something called “The seamless ligation technique, aka the "no-see'm" method”, which was a Technique Designed to HIDE Evidence of Human Tampering with a Virus And he gave this technique to the Chinese Government. “What is the public health rationale for doing that?” The technique was developed by Dr. Ralph Baric at the University of North Carolina, and funded through the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID). This “Seamless ligation technique” allows for the assembly of viral genomes or DNA fragments without leaving obvious genetic signatures of laboratory manipulation, which can make it difficult to distinguish between naturally occurring and lab-engineered organisms. Oh my god, he's going to create a propaganda machine because he knows that his snake oil, anti-vax, conspiratorial bullshit won't make it into rigorous journals. RFK Jr might be the most dangerous person in the admin: killing people with lies and creating systems to amplify it.

Bingo. Having a well educated, thoughtful electorate is fatal to authoritarian power grabs. They’d rather a credulous, ignorant populace to manipulate than a thoughtful one and lose power. They’re sacrificing advances that make people live better just to hoard power and money.

You *want* people in positions of power to be quiet and silently benefit from the system?! That's the opposite of what reasonable people have consistently fought for. Also, how large a pay cut must this guy take before he's "allowed" to speak? This is silly.
New rule, if you are at the top of the physician income ladder you do not get to speak about Medicaid, reimbursement or otherwise. You should just be quiet and enjoy your enormous salary. Respectfully.

It’s not a grudge. It’s the plan. The poor feel like highly educated dems left them behind. MAGA curried their favor: “professors are the enemy”. In return, the poor become more disenfranchised having voted against their self interests; tale as old as time ft.com/content/6de668c7-64e9…
The U.S. is about to lose a ton of future scientists and founders. To satisfy a grudge.

A bittersweet end to my near decade-long MD/PhD. If I can help any patients, it's only because of the exceptional mentorship I've had at @LifeatBlake, @harveymudd, and @uwsmph along the way. Thank you, all. I will miss the Midwest more than I anticipated. On, Wisconsin!

Awesome. Thanks, republican voters. Making America healthy again, right?!
BREAKING: The EPA says it will reverse most of the drinking water standards aimed at protecting people from toxic "forever chemicals" known as PFAS. Even low levels of the chemicals known as PFAS are linked with cancer and other health problems.

It is about understanding one of the most complex & harmful phenomena of our time. The irony? Trump et al clearly fear the marketplace of ideas.

More harmful lies, lies, lies. RFK Jr as monumentally horrible & destructive as predicted. Complicit in this deadly authoritarian anti-science sh*t storm: Bhattacharya, Makary, et al. RFK Jr falsely claim MMR vaccine includes ‘aborted fetus debris’ theguardian.com/us-news/2025…

A total bald-faced lie. There is NO fetal tissue in the MMR vaccine. Period. This man is unfit to lead HHS.

The rubella component of the MMR vaccine was developed using the WI-38 cell line, derived from fetal lung tissue obtained from an aborted fetus in the 1960s. This cell line is used to grow the weakened rubella virus. The vaccine is purified and doesn’t contain fetal cells. chop.edu/vaccine-educat…

To avoid embarrassment it might be useful to read RFK Jr’s book rather than rely on ChatGPT. The quote in question is on page 153: “[RotaTeq] almost certainly kills and injures more children in the United States than the rotavirus disease killed and injured prior to the vaccine’s introduction.” This quote is not in reference to the clinical trials data. It is based on a set of statistics that RFK does not provide a source for and that we concluded, after exhaustive research, that he probably made up. The RotaTeq vaccine showed 90 percent reduction in morbidity in developed countries—where, of course—a reduction in mortality would have been unlikely. In countries like India, in contrast, rotavirus vaccines have saved millions of lives. It takes a special kind of moral idiot to evaluate a public health innovation and forget about the developing world.
Quick fact check of initial claims in this piece: Gladwell claims RFK J said that the RotaTeq vaccine killed more kids than it saved; However, in RFK Jr's book, The Real Anthony Fauci, his claim is that the clinical trial data show 'no statistically significant reduction in deaths for kids on Rotateq' (from ChatGPT). This claim is accurate (I checked the trials). To counter RFK J claims, Gladwell asks his pharma friend about RotaTeq health outcomes. The friend says health outcomes are "once in a generation" improvements for symptoms (diarrhea). However, RFK J's claim was not about symptoms--it was about mortality (deaths), which are arguably far more important (not whether your kids gets diarrhea but ultimately if they survive). So, the apparent debunking of RFK J was not a debunking. Goal posts were shifted. @RobertKennedyJr

Not the first to sound the alarm: RFK Jr cares about his priors, not data. The guy is a hack with the blood of children on his hands. "the HHS Communications Director contacted the NYT reporter saying that the results of my study don't support the views of RFK Jr on UPFs"
Answers to a few questions from @bigfatsurprise about incidences of censorship I recently experienced at NIH: 1. My request was denied by HHS to present an invited keynote talk on my ultra-processed food (UPF) research at the Bloomberg Philanthropies annual Food Policy Program partner meeting on March 31. A virtual option was also denied. No reasons were provided. I have emails documenting these denials. 2. I don't think paper is published yet, but @GardnerPhD is an author and can confirm that I withdrew my authorship in late February to avoid capitulating to NIH requests to revise manuscript text and thereby censor my co-author's contribution on health equity issues surrounding UPFs. I have emails documenting these events. 3. Yes, I have my email sent on March 4 to the NIDDK press office showing my approved answers to questions from the NYT reporter. I also have the email sent March 5 from the NIDDK press office with answers that were edited (either directly by the HHS Communications Director or at his request) but attributed to me. I also have documentation indicating that the HHS Communications Director contacted the NYT reporter saying that the results of my study don't support the views of RFK Jr on UPFs. This was confirmed in my discussions with the NIDDK press office that they had received similar information from the NIH Director's office and that HHS wanted to highlight limitations of the study, characterizing it as small and that participants consumed only one milkshake and spent only 5 days admitted to the hospital. Meanwhile, it was the largest study of it's kind and almost unique in its level of dietary control for a neuroimaging study. Please note that all of this occurred before @DrJBhattacharya took office (which was after the deadline to apply for early retirement). I could have withdrawn my retirement application had I received a response to my March 28 email to HHS and NIH leadership (which I suspect was read by someone because I have documentation that it was forwarded to an NIH colleague from the NIH Director's office on April 2). I did not receive a reply and my last day at NIH was April 16 when I was asked to turn in my badge, parking pass, and office key. Since then, I'm happy to report that I had a very productive meeting with @DrJBhattacharya who let me know he only learned of these issues after the announcement of my retirement. I'm looking forward to further discussions with him.

The post-truth era is here. Trump shared a doctored image to justify illegally deporting a man to a foreign prison--meeting the definition of a concentration camp--while Trump defies the US Supreme Court's unanimous decision to facilitate his return. God help us all.
I continue to be shocked. You know those photos of the gang tattoos on Abrego Garcia’s knuckles? They’re photoshopped. But Trump himself has shared the pic. It’s now a “fact” in MAGAworld. The tattoos are whatever Trump says. Every day is a new low with these people.

So then resign immediately and make way for someone who is willing to do their job. Growing up Jewish you spend time wondering “how could the Holocaust possibly happen?” This is how. Your silence is enabling our morally bankrupt, fascist administration.
A sitting member of the United States Senate says she and many of her colleagues are afraid of speaking out against the actions of the President and his administration because of retaliation. Does this sound like a functioning democracy to you?
