Forthcoming! (February/March 2027). I’ll post a link to the OUP website in the coming weeks.
A fascinating example of how the division of the Qur’an into separate volumes can reflect patterns of ritual reading: in Somalia, the mushaf is often divided into seven manzil, each corresponding to a day of the week, beginning with Friday.

Terrible news of the passing of my Leiden colleague and preeminent authority in Islamic and Arabic codicology and paleography, Professor Jan Witkam, who joined Leiden back in 1964, before going on to become the Professor of Paleography and Codicology of the Muslim World. RIP.
Congratulations to Haneen and Abdul-Latif! I had the pleasure to meet them over Zoom a couple of months ago. Their courage and dedication to preserving cultural heritage are truly inspiring.
