Celebrating Irish Sign Language Awareness Week
Yesterday, 23rd September, South Dublin County Council proudly marked Irish Sign Language Awareness Week at County Hall.
We were delighted to welcome Damien Owens (Chime) and Ciara McGeough (Irish Remote Interpreting Service, IRIS), who shared powerful insights on the importance of access to Irish Sign Language (ISL), as being not only about communication, but as a matter of equality and human rights.
At SDCC, we are committed to our obligations under the Irish Sign Language Act 2017 and to making our services and workplace more inclusive and accessible for all.
A big thank you to Damien, Ciara, and our colleagues who joined us in recognising the vital role of ISL in our community and workplace
