Sometimes when I go to Ethiopia and see the Ethiopia airline, the way it is operated, I am ashamed of being a Kenya. If you look at KICC, it is a landmark , that means what Kenya has. Today a property worthy 40 billion shillings, they are making a profit of only 5%. Ethipia airline is making profit because of good managemnet.
At KICC, the government injected 1.9b shillings as investimnet. If you are making 200 million profit that means you will recover after 10 years. I want to support Sen. Cherargei, do we need it? ~ @ChuteSen #BungeLiveSEN

The @SenCommitteeKE on Devolution and Intergovernmental Relations is pushing for bold reforms to overhaul county governance through the County Government Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2025.
Sponsored by Sen. Abdul Mohammed Haji, the Bill aims to eliminate legislative delays by requiring Governors to assent to Bills within seven days.
During todayโs session at Parliament Buildings, Senators emphasized procedural fairness, moving to delete a clause that would have made a Governorโs failure to assent to a bill a ground for removal.
The Bill also targets fiscal discipline by capping the number of County Chief Officers at 20 to prevent bloated structures and excessive spending.
To ensure seamless transitions, it proposes aligning County Public Service Board terms with the five-year electoral cycle.
The Committee will now synthesize these stakeholder views before submitting a final report to the Senate floor.

The Senate Standing Committee on Devolution and Intergovernmental Relations, led by Wajir Senator Mohamed Abbas, hosts a benchmarking delegation from Namibia's Parliamentary Committee on Urban & Rural Development.
The delegation is in the country to study Kenya's comprehensive devolved system of government and the framework for Intergovernmental Relations (IGR).
Namibia is keen to adopt Kenya's clear legal and institutional framework for Intergovernmental Relations (IGR).
Kenya, in turn, is learning from Namibiaโs successful model for formally integrating Traditional Authorities into local governance.

The Senate Standing Committee on National Cohesion, Equal Opportunity and Regional Integration chaired by Sen. Mohammed Said Chute (Marsabit) today met two state agencies over staff diversity, equal opportunity and inclusion concerns.
The first to appear was the New Kenya Planters Cooperative Union (NKPCU) led by Managing Director Mr. Timothy Mirugi, accompanied by Peter Nyakoi and Martha Nyamaera, who presented the Unionโs position regarding national cohesion and equal employment.
Senators led by Vice Chair Sen. Lomenen Joseph (Turkana) demanded answers on why the majority of NKPCU staff come from one community despite the Union being a national institution. In his defense, Mr. Mirugi said the situation was inherited from previous management and that efforts are underway with relevant stakeholders to improve representation.
Nominated Senator Consolata Nabwire questioned the Unionโs position on employing persons with disabilities. The MD responded that consultations were ongoing with the National Council for Persons with Disabilities to ensure their inclusion in upcoming recruitment. The Chair instructed NKPCU to provide documentary proof of this engagement.
The second agency to face the committee was the Tana and Athi Rivers Development Authority (TARDA) led by Managing Director Liban Roba, accompanied by six senior officials. The committee scrutinized the organizationโs gender balance and equal opportunity in employment.
Responding to questions, Mr. Roba stated that TARDA is increasing efforts to ensure fair gender representation. Sen. Dan Maanzo (Makueni) further questioned how the authority intends to promote age diversity, particularly the inclusion of youth. The MD assured the committee that youth will be prioritized in upcoming recruitment and internship programmes.
Other senators present included Sen. Beth Syengo (Nominated) and Sen. Kamau Githuku (Lamu).
Chairperson Sen. Chute reminded the officials that public institutions must reflect the face of Kenya, directing both NKPCU and TARDA to ensure equal regional representation and inclusion of persons with disabilities and individuals from marginalized communities in future workforce planning.
