This is funny
Utah head coach Morgan Scalley revealed during Saturday’s College GameDay broadcast that a conversation with Nick Saban about defensive schemes left him questioning his understanding of football. Scalley reportedly recalled Saban criticizing his defensive approach during a discussion about Cover 3 coverage, telling him, “Son, that’s not Cover 3. That’s three defensive backs watching a touchdown from different angles.” #UtahFootball #NickSaban #CollegeGameDay #CollegeFootball #ESPN

"It's a lot less stressful not coaching.. It's important to sit back and enjoy things and that's probably the biggest reason that I retired.. Coaching isn't a job it's a way of life.. Don't get me wrong I loved it but there's a lot that you give up" ~ Coach Saban #PMSLive

NEW: The two most important paragraphs of this 18-page order are screenshot below. Every lawyer for athletes across America will use this same theory in their respective courtrooms. Again, a temporary injunction, but a win for the players (for now). H/T: @KYHSHistory

Donovan Dent on why he came to LSU: "Really, just Will Wade's culture. He instills a lot of confidence in his players to let you get up and down. He's one of the best player-coaches I think in the nation. And just the atmosphere of LSU. Like, why not come to Baton Rouge."

Fernando Mendoza signed a rookie contract in July worth $57.27 million. Fully guaranteed. He is 22 years old. This week he announced what he is doing with his rookie season. He is starting a series called Finance with Fernando to teach people his age how to handle money. His words in the trailer. "My true passion is fiscal responsibility." He is not bluffing. He graduated from the Haas School of Business at Berkeley, and he is finishing a master's in business administration in December. Here is how he got to the point where a 22 year old can say that. All four of his grandparents left Cuba for Miami in 1960. He grew up in Miami and played at Christopher Columbus High School. In two seasons as the starting quarterback he threw for 1,396 yards and 16 touchdowns. Total. Nobody was building a recruiting class around that. He committed to Yale. Then another recruit's decision opened a door at California, and he went to Berkeley instead. He redshirted in 2022. He started eight games in 2023 and eleven in 2024. Then he hit the portal and went to Indiana, a program that had gone 9-27 in the three years before Curt Cignetti showed up. What happened next does not really happen. Indiana went 16-0. Mendoza threw 41 touchdown passes, a school record. They won at Oregon. They beat No. 1 Ohio State for the Big Ten title. Rose Bowl against Alabama, he went 14 of 16 for 192 yards and three touchdowns in a 38-3 win. Peach Bowl against Oregon, five touchdowns. Then the national championship game, against Miami. The school in his own hometown. Indiana won 27-21. He was the offensive MVP. First Heisman Trophy in Indiana history. First national championship in Indiana history. Then the Raiders took him first overall. He wears number 15 for Tom Flores, who gave him his blessing to use it. And right now he is sitting behind Kirk Cousins. So instead of waiting around, he is finishing the MBA and starting a personal finance series for people who have never had money and are about to. One more thing worth knowing about him. His mother Elsa lives with multiple sclerosis. He and his brother worked with restaurants to put items on the menu that raise money for MS research. Turn on any sports broadcast in America right now and count the sportsbook ads. The number one pick in the draft started a show about not losing your money.

“WE over ME”
For Trinity Valley head coach Greg Heiar, this year’s group has the tools to impact games in just about every way — but what stands out first is how connected they’ve become. “They’re well connected. They share the ball. They take pride on the defensive end of the court.” That selflessness carries throughout the roster, from crashing the offensive glass and gang rebounding defensively to a bench that stays completely engaged in the game. “They seem like some selfless human beings, and they can put the ball in the basket.” And offensively, Heiar believes Trinity Valley has a combination that should grab the attention of college coaches: shooting, size, length and athleticism with the ability to threaten defenses from multiple levels. “I think this team can play above the rim, but it can also play behind the three-point line as well.” With jamborees, tours and Division I coaches coming through the gym, Heiar is ready for the Cardinals to show how their work in practice translates when the competition begins.

Brendan Haywood says offensive identity has left the league: “I call a lot of college basketball last year, and I do pro. And the one difference I see is offense identity. If you watch a college game, Duke don’t play like Carolina, Carolina don’t play like Michigan, Michigan don’t play like Nebraska or whoever, or Kansas, right? But when you watch a NBA game everybody plays the same but it didn’t used to be like that. Because when we came in the league the Nets was running the Princeton, the Lakers were running the triangle then you had Sacramento running the high post offense with Vlade and them boys. Golden State run and gun, low post offense, cross screens. Everybody played to their strengths because they said this is what we do. Then you know what happened everybody came in with the IPads and everything else and analytics, and they said, “Hey, we want to be pace and space and shoot threes mid pick and roll spread game the whole NBA plays like that.” You watch every NBA game now a days you see the same offense it is hard to tell each teams identity when you all play the same style.
