Football is ultimately a game of talent. Scheme matters. Play calling matters. Great coaching and creative play designs can give you an edge. But when the lights come on, it still comes down to players making plays. The team with the better players usually wins. Talent matters. Period.

Vince Young might have the most nonchalant national championship-winning touchdown celebration of all time. That was intentional.
“I tried my best not to throw the ball in the stands, but you got Coach Brown in your ear like, ‘Don’t throw the ball. Don’t spike it. Don’t be dancing. Act like you’ve been there.’”
To this day I wonder if he stunned himself the way he stunned the rest of the college football world in that moment. The capping of the most mesmerizing national title game that’s ever been played.

You can get brutally FAST off of just a few SPRINTS at extreme speeds.
The volume can be unbelievable low if you train frequently.
There’s no reason athletes should walk out of workouts absolutely crushed… because optimal training requires FREQUENT EXPOSURE!

Running long distances to prep football players for games is like running different plays in practice than you will in the game.
Neither prepares them for the demands they will face in game.
If you want to set them up for success, reverse engineer the flow of the game🏈🫡

Counter is the best run play in football because it combines everything you want in a physical run game.
1. Violent gap double teams at the point of attack,
2. Trap pull by the guard to kick out the end, which is always violent and nasty
3. Then a second puller leading up on the LB, giving you that downhill ISO feel.
It creates great angles, punishes aggressive defenses, and lets your linemen play fast and physical, and has the most variations that you can add to it!

No matter your bias on Exercises… We all have to get progressively stronger on Push, Pull, Hinge, and Squat patterns.
These are basic human movement patterns.
An increase in Strength on basic movements, will always yield athletic performance improvements.

Stiff Tendons allow for more efficient transfer of ground force.
Developing Stiffer Tendons…
1. Heavy Load Resistance Training.
2. Short Ground Contact Plyometrics
3. Max Effort Sprinting
Together these train the tendons to absorb, store, and return force rapidly.

Powerlifting often gets a bad rap on here but here’s the truth… ⬇️
Powerlifters have mastered the art of relative strength/absolute force production.
Your young athletes should be prioritizing both of these. It may be wise to take a page out of powerlifting’s book 😉

If 95% of your teammates are showing growth and development, and you’re not… don’t come complain to me.
You won’t like that conversation.
You get what you put into the weight room every single day. You can’t hide from the process. You can’t cheat the weight room.
Eventually, it will expose you!
