A 10-year-old girl was kidnapped in broad daylight. Hours later, two garbage collectors saw something that stopped them in their tracks.
It was the silver car police were searching for, sitting alone in the middle of a field. Dion Merrick and Brandon Antoine realized the missing girl could still be inside, so they pulled their garbage truck across the only way out, blocked the car from leaving and called 911.
For the next few minutes, they stayed there with the suspect trapped while police raced to the scene. When officers arrived, they rushed in, arrested the kidnapper and found 10-year-old Jalissa alive inside.
Dion and Brandon were just doing their normal route that morning. But because they were paying attention and refused to let that car leave, a missing 10-year-old girl made it home safely.
Some stories deserve to travel just as far as the bad news does. This is one of them.

Approximately 71,000 Black children and teenagers were reported missing in 2021. Children cannot consent to sex work but Black and Brown girls are often adultified, treated as older than they are, denied the innocence given to others, and too often blamed for the abuse they suffer. Instead of receiving protection and empathy, many are met with suspicion, judgment, and neglect.
