Community Composting Made Easy Since 2010!

Washington, DC
Joined April 2010
Our community has composted 11M+ lbs of food waste since 2017. The environmental equivalent of planting and growing 35,000 trees for 10 years. While we're on the subject—we're also planting thousands of trees every year. Very proud of our green, clean, beautiful DC.

Update: Department of Public Works says Office of Contracts is still contracting w the dump truck company District Logistics on "emergency" to manage farmers market compost. Move comes after contract appeals board said it should terminate its contract with District Logistics.
Fishy, indeed! Since 2011 FRESHFARM has worked w/ @compostcab to grow community composting, pioneering a market drop-off model later expanded by The District. But Compost Cab is no longer running the program. Read this @WAMU story for inside scoop! wamu.org/story/24/04/05/dc-c…

Must-read story, and this is a particularly troubling part of it.
A dump truck company is now managing DC's compost program at farmers markets, after the gov cut ties w Compost Cab The decision is puzzling: Compost Cab conceived of the program years ago, & has diverted more than 4.4 million pounds of waste from landfill wamu.org/story/24/04/05/dc-c…

Just testified @DCDPW oversight hearing before @BrianneKNadeau and the new Committee for Public Works and Operations. Asked for resources to meaningfully expand the #compost dropoff program in #DC. Hoping we can work together to make that happen.

It was a thrill to show @robertegger around the #KleinCenter for Jobs & Justice when he was in DC last week. What an incredible journey it has been from that small kitchen on Florida Ave! #BringingtheKitchenHome #HungerFighters #RelentlessIncrementalism 💪

Will you help Keswick Creamery? On 12/13 a fire burnt the Keswick Creamery milking parlor & cheese plant. Keswick is accepting donations to rebuild as quickly as possible. While they do have insurance, it will not cover the staggering costs. 👉🏼bit.ly/3uWfVnQ
