Serotonin biology as a basis for explaining psychedelic drug action - we learned a lot writing this review for @CurrentBiology

We know a good deal about serotonin, which should teach us how psychedelics work. But what’s the same? What’s different? 🤔

The first 2 sentences of this paper are brutal.
"Unintentional drug overdose is the leading cause of maternal death in the US. Opioid use disorder (OUD) during pregnancy has increased more than 7-fold over the past 2 decades."
the good news is they find that buprenorphine and naltrexone can decrease overdose/death up to a year after birth, as long as the medications are being prescribed, and the longest the better. Unfortunatly there are still large stigma and hurdles to get these medications, and only 1/4 gets them. so much more should be done to increase access.
