The European Commission (EC) has put environmental sustainability at the top of the EU agenda. The ambition is to make the EU the first climate-neutral continent by 2050 while achieving greater reduction of gas emissions by 2030 compared to current targets. More details inside 👇
The EU Green Deal is very ambitious and spans decades, but faces the risk of being sidelined at the first recession continuumeconomics.com/2020/…

The Swiss National Bank (SNB) kept its policy unchanged. New forecasts suggest higher inflationary pressures. We expect the SNB to begin normalizing policy in 2019; pre-empting the ECB is an unlikely scenario, unless the Swiss franc depreciates significantly. – at Kensington, London

Inflation and growth are picking-up in the Swiss economy. However monetary policy will remain expansive and trail that of the ECB's - as they move to shield marginal inflation gains from CHF appreciation. Forward guidance is contingent on ECB policy. teapawt.org/continuumdaily/status/… – at Camberwell, London

Great piece on Europe’s lingering coal use and the regional divergence. Cee especially Poland remains primary coal consumer. Diversifying from Russian energy links likely increased/perpetuated use. teapawt.org/bruegel_org/status/935…
#Europe has a dirty #energy secret: #coal is producing 1/4 of #electricity, but 3/4 of emissions. EU should phase out coal and guarantee the social welfare of coal #miners, making a better use of the Eu Globalisation Adjustment Fund @TagliapietraBxl bit.ly/2BjdcHo

Household lending continues to grow in Sweden - 7.3% y/y. The average debt-to-income ratio for households with mortgages was 338% in September, up from 326% in 2016. This leaves them exposed to interest rates hikes or a significant fall in house prices. #sweden #Economics #debt – at Camberwell, London

lots of good commentary on China-CESEE meeting from @merics_de and @FT. Argument that CEE countries are hitting EU cohesion on China seems a bit rich given that the big 4 have long had divergent views on Chinese investment blog.merics.org/en/blog-post… ft.com/content/16abbf2a-cf9b…
