We fight to push organized crime off the Internet. The laws governing the web should protect the world's most vulnerable creatures, not tech billionaires.

Check out this article in today's FT. Telegram has become a major organising point for distributing illegal material. Not sustainable in the medium to longer-term. Operates from Dubai where the Government is said to be "neutral" about its output. Hmmmm ft.com/content/c70ef7d6-230a…

Big Tech refuses to regulate itself. Congress must step in. COONS: Is there any one of you willing to say now that you support this bill [to share data on your platforms’ safety with Congress and the public]? *silence* COONS: Let the record reflect a yawning silence.

Mark Zuckerberg just bragged about limiting teen ad targeting. Before Meta lifted a finger, though, TTP published multiple reports revealing that the company was approving ads pushing drugs, alcohol, & eating disorders on teens. techtransparencyproject.org/…

Meta received 20+ MILLION reports of child sexual abuse material shared on FB & Messenger last year. Yet Meta chose to move to full encryption, meaning they can no longer report these crimes. Children are harmed & bear the consequences while Meta profits. protectchildren.ca/en/press-…

Our research is unequivocal that men who sexually abuse children use encrypted apps at much higher rates than men who don’t. Meta’s decision will result in many more child sex offenders using Messenger.
We’re starting to roll out default end-to-end encryption for personal calls and messages on @messenger. This isn’t a routine security update: we rebuilt the app from the ground up, in close consultation with privacy and safety experts. We added some new features too: you can now edit messages, turn off read receipts, send disappearing messages, and more.

It's not just see no evil, hear no evil @SenBlumenthal. It's "know there's evil, ignore that evil because it drives engagement and therefore profit."

Facebook and Instagram have policies banning the sale of human remains. But those policies are rarely enforced, even when the sale of those remains is a violation of law. The companies actually *profit* from its failure to enforce human remains policies. xitter.cf/ATHARProject/status/14…
.@Meta's Facebook claims to "prohibit" the sale of human remains. But as shoppers search for post-holiday deals, Facebook serves up an ad offering "REAL human skulls, skeletons, and bones" to our account. Reminder: Ads MUST be *approved" by FB. These "policies" are just PR.

Nobody elected Big Tech to govern the entire digital world. If democracy means anything, leaders must take responsibility for protecting the freedom of the American people from the ever-changing whims of powerful companies and their unaccountable C.E.O.s↘️ nytimes.com/2023/07/27/opini…

Excellent point by @RepKenBuck on how #BigTech throws money at Congress to get what they want. #section230 #antitrust @linakhanFTC
Incredible moment today when @RepKenBuck asked @linakhanFTC how much does it cost to buy Congress:
