Crackdown on Fraudulent Call Centre | 8 Arrested Continuing its crackdown on cybercrime, Asansol-Durgapur Police busted a fraudulent call centre operating in the Benachity area under Durgapur Police Station. The operation led to the arrest of 8 persons, including 3 women, allegedly involved in defrauding people on the pretext of offering opportunities for mobile tower installation. During the raid, several mobile phones, landline telephones, routers and other electronic equipment were seized from the premises. Continuing its crackdown on narcotics trafficking and criminal activities, a joint team of the Detective Department (DD) and Asansol (North) Police Station conducted a raid based on specific intelligence and arrested two persons allegedly involved in narcotics trafficking. Significant seizures during the operation include: - More than 300 grams of brown sugar - One 9 mm pistol and one 7 mm pistol - One six-chamber revolver - 46 rounds of live ammunition and two empty cartridges - Gold ornaments weighing approximately 160 grams - Silver ornaments weighing approximately 300 grams - Cash amounting to ₹5.35 lakh - One motorcycle A case has been registered at Asansol (North) Police Station vide Case No. 511/26 dated 19.10.2026 under the relevant provisions of the NDPS Act and the Arms Act. Further investigation is underway to ascertain the source of the seized contraband, trace the supply network and establish possible links with other criminal activities. As part of its commitment to women’s safety and empowerment, Asansol-Durgapur Police Commissionerate has established 25 Trinayani booths across different Police Station areas. These booths promote awareness on child marriage, stalking, harassment, cyber safety and the protection of women and children. JUSTICE FOR A CHILD: 20 YEARS OF RIGOROUS IMPRISONMENT In a case involving sexual offence against a minor, the Ld Judge of the Exclusive POCSO Court, Asansol, on 14th October 2026, sentenced the accused, Kartick Bauri of Mithani, Kulti, to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of ₹10,000, with an additional six months of simple imprisonment in default of payment of the fine. The sentence was passed in connection with Kulti PS Case No. 560/2021 dated 25.10.2021, registered under Section 376AB of the IPC and Sections 4/6 of the POCSO Act. The case was investigated by SI Susanta Ghosh who pieced together the evidence and submitted chargesheet timely resulting in custody trial of the accused. শিশুর জন্য ন্যায়বিচার: ২০ বছরের সশ্রম কারাদণ্ড। এক নাবালকের সঙ্গে যৌন অপরাধের একটি মামলায়, আসানসোলের এক্সক্লুসিভ পকসো আদালতের মাননীয় বিচারক, গত ১৪ই অক্টোবর ২০২৬ তারিখে, কুলটির মিঠানির বাসিন্দা অভিযুক্ত কার্তিক বাউরিকে ২০ বছরের সশ্রম কারাদণ্ড এবং ১০,০০০ টাকা জরিমানা করেন। জরিমানা অনাদায়ে অতিরিক্ত ছয় মাসের সাধারণ কারাদণ্ডের আদেশও দেওয়া হয়। এই দণ্ডাদেশটি ভারতীয় দণ্ডবিধির ৩৭৬এবি ধারা এবং পকসো আইনের ৪/৬ ধারার অধীনে নথিভুক্ত কুলটি থানার ২৫.১০.২০২১ তারিখের ৫৬০/২০২১ নং মামলার পরিপ্রেক্ষিতে দেওয়া হয়েছে। এই মামলার তদন্ত করেন এসআই সুশান্ত ঘোষ, যিনি প্রমাণাদি একত্রিত করে যথাসময়ে অভিযোগপত্র দাখিল করেন, যার ফলে অভিযুক্তের হেফাজতে বিচারকার্য শুরু হয়।
