Players: Too many HS players think that being able to “get buckets” is the ticket to a college scholarship. Far more important is knowing your role, perfecting it & executing it. Use your role to help your team WIN! College coaches want kids who’ve carved a niche for themselves.

Coaches: When you ignite a player’s passion, you help unleash a powerful force on the world. Not just for now, but for life. A passion for one thing often creates passion for other things in life. Develop meaningful relationships w/ your players & help them realize their passion.

Players: Playing time is out of your control. It’s not your decision. What is in your control is doing what it takes to become a better player. If you want to play more, do more. Practice more. Attack threats. Perfect your role. You’re the person responsible for what you control.

Players: Ego lends itself to failure. To avoid that, lose your ego. You aren’t entitled, so earn it. Don’t quit when adversity hits. Be able to take constructive criticism & realize you don’t have all the answers. Learn to listen more than you speak & don’t be hard to coach.

Parents: Encourage children to communicate directly with their coach. It’s a skill they will need for a lifetime, so help them develop it now. They need to learn that parents can’t fight their battles for them & that 3rd party communication won’t get them very far in this world.
