But we exclusively obtained Moussa Diawaraโs asylum application, where he said he was seeking asylum in the U.S. because he was gay and feared being killed if sent back.
Now, DHS is pointing to his case as an example of alleged immigration fraud.
In his own words, Diawara wrote:
โAlthough I was born as a boy, but things appeared differently for me as I was already having female behaviors and feelings.โ
โI was more comfortable being intimate with boys rather than with girls.โ
And describing his life after arriving in the United States:
โSince I came to the USA I had the possibilities to express my feelings to men without any embarrassment no reserve.โ

According to newly released Department of Homeland Security figures, New York jurisdictions refused to honor 16,070 ICE detainers associated with 52,503 criminal charges and convictions.
That's not political hyperbole.
Those are the numbers DHS released.
Meanwhile, New York's own overdose statistics reveal another disquieting reality.
Between 2018 and 2024, overdose fatalities among Black New Yorkers increased 4x, while fatalities among White New Yorkers declined 29%.
Now, I want Black New Yorkers to ask themselves a very uncomfortable question.
Why are we repeatedly asked to accept policies that political leaders describe as compassionate while our neighborhoods continue struggling with crime, addiction, and deteriorating public safety?
And why does Governor Hochul spend so much energy defending restrictions on immigration enforcement while Black families are demanding protection, accountability, and measurable results?
I'm not claiming these immigration policies caused the overdose disparity. That connection has not been established. But the disparity is real, the detainer figures demand scrutiny, and the governor owes New Yorkers an explanation.
At what point does political compassion become governmental dereliction?

Let's get the sequence straight:
Polls close at 17:00. Lula's campaign complains about bus disruption in three cities. A Supreme Court justiceโฆhis former personal lawyerโฆextends voting nationwide by two hours to 19:00.
Not the three cities. The whole country.
Some polling stations had already shut their machines and couldn't reopen. Others stayed open. Chaos either way.
And Lula won with an "unassailable lead."
You don't extend an election after it closes because one side complained about buses. You do it when you need the result to land a certain way.
