Nothing screams energy dominance like this: China added more #BESS (grid-scale battery storage) in December 2025 alone than the US managed in all of 2025. One month vs one year. That’s not competition anymore — that’s industrial separation. #Lithium #LFP
This has moved beyond a reality check.
This chart isn’t “impressive.” It’s a body-blow to the West. While we’re still debating pilots, subsidies, and “market readiness,” China just flipped the switch on grid-scale storage at civilization scale. December wasn’t a surge — it was a systems upgrade. Batteries are no longer a technology choice there; they’re infrastructure, like transmission lines or ports.
And here’s the brutal part: it’s already too late to pretend this is catch-up territory. China now controls the learning curve, the cost curve, the supply chains, and the deployment muscle. Every gigawatt-hour they install compounds the advantage — cheaper power, more resilient grids, faster electrification of transport and industry. The West didn’t lose because it lacked innovation. It lost because it moved like a committee while China moved like a manufacturer.
This is what the future grid looks like when it stops being a PowerPoint slide and becomes hardware.
Not targets. Not promises. Reality.
The question now isn’t “Can we lead?”
It’s “How much ground have we already lost?”

China crossed 50% (53.9%) penetration in EV heavy-duty truck sales — not cars, not buses, but heavy freight, the most brutally economic transport segment. 2025 sales hit 231,100 units (+182% YoY), with annual penetration at 28.9% vs 13.6% in 2024. #LFP #Lithium
That alone should stop people in their tracks. But the real story is hiding inside the batteries.
🚛 These aren’t car batteries — they’re grid assets on wheels
Typical battery sizes in China’s electric heavy truck fleet:
• Urban / short-haul: ~200–300 kWh
• Regional haul (most volume): 300–450 kWh
• Battery-swap trucks: ~280–320 kWh per standard pack
• Many trucks run 1–2 packs, route-dependent
• Mining / ports / extreme duty: 500–600+ kWh
That’s 5–8× a passenger EV battery, deployed into vehicles that:
• Run far higher daily utilisation
• Cycle batteries hard
• Prioritise durability, uptime & TCO
That’s why LFP dominates.
🔁 Battery swapping flipped the economics
China didn’t just electrify trucks — it industrialised them.
• Standardised packs across OEMs
• 5–10 min swaps
• Batteries owned by operators, not fleets
• Trucks sold cheaper, batteries monetised separately
Capex pain removed. Utilisation up. EV trucks win on pure economics — no ideology, no virtue signalling. Just math.
When fleets save ~RMB 1–1.2m per truck over 8–10 years vs diesel, the choice isn’t philosophical — it’s inevitable.
⚡ The lithium demand shock nobody is modelling properly
This is where it gets explosive.
One electric heavy truck =
• Multiple passenger EVs worth of lithium
• Deployed instantly
• Locked into domestic supply chains
• Bought on fleet cycles, not consumer whim
Unlike car sales, this demand is:
• Sticky
• Utilisation-heavy
• Infrastructure-coupled (swap stations, depots, hubs)
No smooth curve here. Step changes.
Passenger EVs drove lithium demand growth.
Heavy trucks drive lithium demand shocks.
🧨 Why 50% matters
Yes, December was front-loaded. Subsidies, tax timing. Fine. That explains timing, not direction.
You don’t “accidentally” hit 50% penetration in the most cost-sensitive transport segment on Earth.
Once fleets cross this line:
• Procurement logic flips
• Infrastructure locks in
• Resale markets form
• Diesel becomes the risky option
This isn’t a cycle. It’s a phase change.
🔮 The takeaway
If heavy trucks are tipping:
• Diesel demand destruction accelerates
• Battery demand compounds faster than car-centric models assume
• Lithium doesn’t drift — it reprices
This isn’t flashy.
It won’t trend on TikTok.
But it’s the moment electrification moves from transition to industrial inevitability.
Once heavy freight goes electric — there’s no way back.

THAILAND'S EV REVOLUTION: FROM 1% TO 40% IN JUST FIVE YEARS!
One of the most extraordinary transformations in the global automotive industry is happening in Thailand, a market historically dominated by Japanese carmakers and petrol and diesel vehicles.
In 2021, fully electric vehicles (BEVs) and plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) accounted for just 1.2% of new vehicle registrations. By September 2026, that had surged to 40.4%, up from 26.1% just a year earlier.
🇹🇭 September 2026 passenger-car market:
⚡ BEVs (fully electric): 36.5%
🔌 PHEVs (plug-in hybrids): 3.9%
🔋 Combined NEVs (BEV + PHEV): 40.4%
♻️ Conventional hybrids (non-plug-in): 28.1%
⛽ Petrol and diesel (ICE only): 31.5%
Meanwhile, conventional petrol and diesel vehicles have seen their market share collapse from approximately 94.5% in 2021 to just 31.5%, a staggering 63 percentage point decline in five years.
📈 NEV registrations have almost doubled in just 12 months, up 97.9% year-on-year.
Nearly seven out of ten new passenger cars are now electrified, although conventional hybrids still rely on fossil fuels.
🇨🇳 And for another remarkable statistic: 9 of Thailand's top 10 best-selling fully electric models are Chinese brands, with Tesla's Model Y the only exception.
Thailand was once a stronghold of Japanese combustion-engine vehicles. Today, Chinese manufacturers are dominating its rapidly growing EV market.
Let this sink in, from 1.2% plug-in vehicles to 40.4% in five years!
This is what technological disruption looks like, and the implications for traditional carmakers and the oil industry are enormous.

Texas just said “YES” to Tesla's $10.1 billion solar factory ☀️
Fort Bend County commissioners near Houston approved every Tesla agreement on the table this afternoon. All four passed 4-0, with one abstention. That covers the property tax abatement, an economic development deal, and two payment-in-lieu-of-taxes agreements for "Project Crystal Sun," a planned plant that would make solar cells and full solar modules on about 3,000 acres.
Tesla's state filing projects 9,712 permanent jobs by 2033, with production starting in early 2029 if this site wins.
Tesla is clearly treating solar as one of its core businesses, not a side project. Bringing cell manufacturing back to the US at this size would be a big deal for energy independence. The state still has to sign off, and Tesla is still looking at sites in other states, but Texas is making a strong offer.

China's Electric Heavy Trucks: From 5.2% to 50.3% in Under Four Years!
In 2022, electric heavy-duty trucks accounted for just 5.2% of China's new heavy-truck market. By September 2026, that figure had reportedly surged to 50.3%, an almost tenfold increase in market share in less than four years.
This is particularly significant because heavy-duty trucks are among the largest consumers of diesel. A single truck can burn tens of thousands of litres annually, meaning electrifying commercial transport has enormous implications for oil demand.
CATL has also just introduced a dual-battery electric truck system with a large swappable battery and smaller onboard reserve, allowing battery swaps in approximately five minutes. The technology is increasingly addressing the practical and economic barriers to electrifying heavy transport.
And importantly, that's new vehicle market share, not the existing fleet. Millions of diesel trucks remain on China's roads, but as electric trucks take a growing share of new sales, the cumulative impact on diesel consumption will become increasingly significant.
Commercial transport is driven primarily by economics. When electric trucks offer lower total operating costs, the incentive to abandon diesel becomes compelling.
China isn't just electrifying passenger transport anymore. It's rapidly electrifying the vehicles that consume some of the most fuel at an unprecedented pace.
Note: 2022 figure is a full-year measure, while September 2026 represents a single month.

$X2M JUST ADDED ANOTHER 10MW AI DATA CENTRE PROJECT
X2M has signed an agreement for a 10MW AI-enabled data centre site in regional Queensland.
The numbers are getting serious:
$250M estimated project cost
10MW capacity
Existing 2.5MW grid connection
Development approval already secured
Additional 7.5MW planned via behind-the-meter generation
20MW now under agreement across two projects
More than $500M aggregate estimated project cost
200MW+ prospective pipeline still in play
X2M has also secured binding exclusivity over the site and power capacity for 60 days, with binding long-form agreements targeted within 90 days.
The story is shifting from pipeline building to pipeline conversion.
If X2M keeps converting its 200MW+ pipeline, the scale of this data centre business could change very quickly.
