Codex went down an insane rabbit hole for me yesterday. For a week now or so videos have artifacts for me on Chrome. But only on my main screen. And Codex figured out the exact circumstances for it: 1. The video needs to be YUV and downscaled.

2. The screen needs to support hardware overlay. 3. Chrome then chooses NV12 as the DirectComposition surface format by default. 4. The video needs to have an odd size. 5. The latest Nvidia driver (~610) then exposes the bug.

Codex reproduced all this perfectly in a native app outside of Chrome (the vertical chart line is supposed to be white). Unfortunately the Nvidia driver is afaik not open source, cause I’m sure Codex could even fix the bug. Forcing Chrome to use an RGB surface works around it.

what’s the point of this if there’s no soccer ball
That was the most insane product demo I’ve ever seen. Well done Tesla!

The results of the first ever Slopolympics are in: In 3rd RAD Debugger by @rfleury In 2nd File Pilot by @vkrajacic And to somewhat of a surprise to me in 1st LiveSplit One. It's interesting how it essentially is an exponential curve.

This seems to be the earliest form of the Gen 10 map. This is the concept art that then led into the 2D map and then into the playable 3D map. So the island placement here is least representative of the final game.
Photoshopped together the Gen 10 map based on the leaked map images #PokemonLeaks

GCs don't make things simpler. Pure myth. GCs handle one resource - memory, and it makes any other resource management (files) confusing. GC'd languages also often make mutability very hard to reason about because it's easy to share mutable references unexpectedly. The reason to use Rust isn't just to avoid a GC, it's because the cognitive overhead of "learn what memory is" is trivial compared to the cognitive overheard of "I don't know how my program actually executes".
Why Rust is overused right now Martin Odersky (Creator of Scala): "Right now, rust is actually overused because a lot of people push Rust for things higher up in the stack Where a garbage collector is fine, but essentially you still want to code without. And that is, for me, a bit an exercise in doing it intellectually just because you can I don't really think there's a big sense in it. If you have the memory for a garbage collector, you should absolutely use one, because it makes a lot of things simpler. So, yes, of course, if given enough brains, I can write code around and I can do that, but why should you? It can be much simpler."
