Concordium is making some interesting moves to grow its ecosystem.
One of the biggest announcements from Town Hall #6 was the allocation of 75 million $CCD to support builders and new projects.
There were also some important updates:
→ 5,040 AI agents registered, with over 738,000 agent transactions.
→ EURQ mainnet launch targeted for December 2026.
→ Protocol-Level Locks expected in January 2027.
→ Agent Kit beta coming in mid-November.
It’s good to see the focus on supporting developers, growing AI infrastructure, and creating more opportunities across the ecosystem.
There’s a lot to look forward to with @Concordium.

The line that stuck: payments are an engineering problem. Identity is a trust problem.
Agents can already discover a service and pay over x402. What a bank, merchant or regulator still cannot see from that payment alone is who authorised the agent and who answers if it goes wrong.
That is the gap Concordium’s CEO walks through with @paulbarron. Verified owner at the protocol level, personal data stays off-chain, badge means accountable not endorsed.

The irony of the digital age:
We collect more personal data to establish trust, only to create bigger targets for attackers.
Zero-Knowledge Proofs offer a different approach.
Verify what’s necessary. Reveal as little as possible.
Privacy and accountability can coexist.

EURQ IS ALREADY LIVE ON TESTNET: REGULATED EURO PAYMENTS ARE COMING TO CONCORDIUM
For AI agents to participate in real economic activity, they need more than the ability to execute transactions.
They need money that can operate within the regulatory framework of the markets they serve.
This is where EURQ comes in.
At the recent @Concordium Town Hall, the CEO @BBilowitzki discussed the arrival of EURQ, a MiCA-compliant euro stablecoin issued by Quantoz, an E-money institution supervised by the Dutch Central Bank.
EURQ is already live on testnet, with mainnet targeted for December 2026.
Here's why this matters:
→ 1. BRINGING REGULATED EUROS ON-CHAIN
EURQ brings a regulated euro-denominated stablecoin into Concordium's Protocol-Level Token (PLT) standard.
This gives the ecosystem access to digital euros designed to meet MiCA requirements, rather than relying only on stablecoins without the same regulatory status.
→ 2. GIVING VERIFIED AGENTS ACCESS TO MONEY
Concordium is building infrastructure around verified AI agents.
But identity alone does not complete the payment equation.
An agent needs to be able to hold funds, make payments and interact with financial services.
EURQ introduces a regulated euro that verified agents can use within this emerging infrastructure.
→ 3. CONNECTING MONEY WITH SPENDING PERMISSIONS
This is where EURQ and Protocol-Level Locks become particularly interesting.
EURQ provides the digital money.
Protocol-Level Locks introduce controls over how funds can be spent, including who is authorised to spend and where payments can go.
Together, they create a foundation for agents to transact with defined permissions rather than unrestricted access to funds.
→ 4. WHY THE EURO MATTERS
For agentic commerce in the Eurozone, having a regulated euro stablecoin is an important piece of infrastructure.
The money used for autonomous payments cannot be an afterthought.
It needs to be usable, compatible with the regulatory environment and integrated into the payment infrastructure supporting these agents.
→ THE ROAD AHEAD
EURQ → Already live on testnet.
December 2026 → Targeted EURQ mainnet launch.
Protocol-Level Locks → Testnet targeted for December 2026, with mainnet planned for 27 January 2027.
WHY THIS MATTERS FOR THE AGENTIC ECONOMY
Consider the infrastructure coming together:
Verified Identity → Establishes who stands behind an agent.
EURQ → Provides regulated digital euros.
Protocol-Level Locks → Establish spending permissions and restrictions.
AI Agents → Execute transactions within the authority granted to them.
These components address different parts of the same problem.
An agent needs an identity, money to transact with and rules governing how that money can be used.
EURQ is an important addition to that picture.
The future of agentic commerce will not be built on autonomous execution alone. It will require the financial infrastructure, regulatory framework and controls that make those transactions practical at scale.

JANUARY 2027: PROTOCOL-LEVEL LOCKS ARE COMING TO MAINNET
AI agents are becoming increasingly capable of executing transactions, making purchases and interacting with financial infrastructure.
But there's an important question behind agentic payments:
How do you give an AI agent permission to spend money without giving it unrestricted control over your funds?
At the recent @Concordium Town Hall, @PeterMarirosans , Concordium's CTO, explained how Protocol-Level Locks (PLLs) are designed to address this.
The idea is straightforward: define the spending permissions at the protocol level, while retaining custody of your tokens.
Here's how it works:
→ 1. CREATE A LOCK
A user creates a lock and defines its permissions.
Three important decisions can be configured:
→ Who can fund the lock.
→ Who is authorised to spend from it.
→ Where the funds are allowed to go.
These rules are established at the protocol level, rather than relying on a conventional smart contract to hold the funds.
→ 2. RETAIN CUSTODY OF YOUR TOKENS
This is one of the important distinctions Peter highlighted.
Concordium's Protocol-Level Tokens (PLTs) remain in the user's custody.
Funding a lock does not mean transferring the tokens into a smart contract or handing ownership over to an agent.
The user retains control while establishing the conditions under which spending can take place.
→ 3. GIVE YOUR AI AGENT DEFINED SPENDING PERMISSIONS
Consider a practical example.
You create a shopping agent and authorise it to make purchases on your behalf.
But instead of giving it unrestricted spending authority, you configure its lock:
→ Supermarket A: Allowed.
→ Supermarket B: Allowed.
→ Supermarket C: Allowed.
→ Supermarket D: Not allowed.
Now, if the agent attempts to make a payment at Supermarket D, the transaction fails.
Why?
Because the destination does not satisfy the permissions defined in the lock.
The agent can execute transactions, but it cannot independently expand the authority granted to it.
→ 4. EXTEND THE LOGIC WITH SMART CONTRACTS
The initial functionality establishes who can fund, spend and receive funds.
Peter also explained how additional programmable conditions can be introduced through smart contract integration.
This could enable configurations such as:
→ Daily spending limits.
→ Weekly or monthly spending limits.
→ Different spending conditions.
→ Additional triggers and transaction configurations.
This introduces another layer of control over how autonomous agents interact with financial resources.
→ 5. SECURITY BEFORE DEPLOYMENT
Peter also addressed the security considerations behind the development.
Concordium has undertaken extensive security work with @CertiK , alongside internal security reviews, to ensure the protocol-level implementation is properly assessed before release.
The delay in delivery has been driven by the need to validate the security and functionality rather than rush deployment.
→ THE ROLLOUT
December 2026 → Protocol-Level Locks arrive on testnet.
27 January 2027 → Planned mainnet launch.
WHY THIS MATTERS FOR THE AGENTIC ECONOMY
There is a difference between allowing an AI agent to execute a payment and defining the boundaries within which it is authorised to operate.
An agent needs the ability to act.
The owner needs the ability to define what that agent is allowed to do.
Protocol-Level Locks introduce this distinction at the infrastructure level:
PLTs → The underlying tokens.
Protocol-Level Locks → Spending permissions and destination restrictions.
AI Agents → Execution within the authority granted to them.
Smart Contracts → Additional programmable conditions and spending logic.
This is an important piece of the infrastructure required for agentic commerce.
Because the future of autonomous payments shouldn't depend on simply trusting that an AI agent will behave as instructed.
It should also have protocol-level mechanisms that enforce the permissions it has been given.

Giving everyone access to AI is just the beginning.
The real challenge starts when billions of AI agents begin acting, transacting, and making decisions on our behalf.
Who’s accountable then? 👀

Two days ago, @binance disclosed a security breach involving approximately $6.3 BILLION.
Billions in stolen assets. Some frozen. Others still moving.
But the biggest question isn’t just how the attackers got in.
It’s where the money went next. 🧵👇

The next big shift isn’t just about stronger security.
It’s about building trust into the infrastructure itself.
Identity. Privacy. Accountability.
From day one. 🔒

Everyone is focused on the payment rails for AI agents. Fewer people are asking what happens after the payment.
Who authorized it? Who is liable? Can anyone verify the agent isn't a bad actor?
Payments alone won't carry the agentic economy. Accountability has to be built in from day one, and @Concordium is one of the few projects treating identity as core infrastructure instead of an add-on.
Worth watching Town Hall #6 if you are tracking this space.
AI agents can pay.
But who’s verifying the human behind them? 👀
As the agentic economy grows, payments alone won’t be enough.
Every paying AI agent needs accountability.
That’s where Concordium comes in.

Recent security incidents involving Binance and Chainalysis highlight an important issue for the Web3 industry: trust cannot rely on promises alone. It has to be backed by proof.
As the digital economy continues to grow, protecting users requires more than strong security. We also need reliable identity verification, privacy protection, and clear accountability when things go wrong.
This is where @Concordium brings something valuable to the table.
By combining built-in identity verification with Zero-Knowledge Proofs, Concordium is working to make privacy and accountability work hand in hand, without exposing more personal information than necessary.
Because in Web3, trust should be something we can verify, not just something we’re asked to believe.
